Yorktown Romantic Sunset Sails

If you are an experienced sailor, this sail is boring except for the beautiful scenery. It probably would be more exciting when the wind is stronger and the river is rougher. The crew does all the work and the passengers just watch (four people did get to help hoist the sails which took just a couple of minutes each sail, but the rest just sat there). If you were at the rear, where the skipper steers the ship, he did occasionally point out some features on land, but if you were at the front, you wouldn't be able to hear. Highlight was when they fired the canon while under the Colman Bridge and the bang riccocheted several times, sounding almost like a machine gun. Overall, a very pleasant and relaxing couple of hours and the sunset was wonderful.

The crew was knowledgable about local history, and friendly. They also know their way around the boat, and sailed her well. The sunset was beautiful the night we went. I would suggest a wind breaker even if it is a hot day, as the temperature drops quickly on the river, as the sun does. Make sure to be on time, as the boat does leave the dock promptly. Enjoy!

I would have liked a little more narration about what we were seeing, but the crew was always available to answer questions. All in all, a very good time.

I highly recommend sailing the York River onboard the Alliance schooner. The captain and the crew took great care of us and gave us a terrific experience. We will have to repeat this one day!

The sunset cruise was a wonderful exprience for both my fiance and me. We thorougly enjoyed the cruise and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing evening.

We went with my parents in the spring and last weekend for my wife's birthday present. Enjoyed both trips greatly. Will go again before this season ends.

It was very calm and beautiful.The sail was very relaxing and the staff was very welcoming.

The only thing that bothered us was someone brought an infant on a sunset sail. Two things: the baby cried a lot but most troubling, it seemed like a tragedy just waiting to happen. A parent was either holding the baby or the baby was in a carriage that wasn't secured. Neither baby nor parent wore a life jacket. We like kids but an evening sail would have been much more enjoyable as adults-only, or at least 12 and up. That's only the evening cruise, day cruises are nice for kids, still not good for infants. There should be a policy barring infants or kids, say under two for safety reasons. I just don't see how they can be safe.

While no narrative is adverstised as a part of the sail, the Captain provided interesting narrative. He made the trip very interesting. A very relaxing voyage. Thank you. A worthwhile experience for me and my wife. In fact, it was our 6th wedding anniversary event. We made a day of the Yorktown experience and loved it. Many thanks to the owner of the Alliance and best of luck to both him and his wife in their future endeavors. The simple things in life are the best! Thanks again.
