Great Boat with Super Crew
Fri, Jun 17, 11   11:00 AM Callawayjack Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
This is a great experience, especially if you have never been on a sailing vessel. The Alliance is very steady and the Captain is knowledgeable about the area and the history. There was plenty of room to move around and you could help with raising the sails if you like. The other crew members were very friendly, especially the one who tended the galley since that is where most of the kids stayed and he had a lot of patience.

Enjoyable cruise cut short by weather

We really enjoyed our cruise aboard the Alliance, despite the fact that it was cut short by a fast moving thunderstorm. The crew was very professional and knew just when to return to the pier to ensure our safety. The captain had a nice sense of humor and did a good job explaining the parts of the schooner and the process of setting sail. The only reason why I'm not giving them five stars is that I think they should have a little more info on their website about what to expect in terms of seating (I ended up sitting on a lifeboat container, which was fine for me but wouldn't be good for a senior citizen) and food available for purchase. The website said that snacks were available on the sunset sail but we had no idea whether that meant hot dogs and hamburgers or just chips, crackers, etc. For us, that makes a difference when deciding whether to have dinner before boarding. I definitely recommend this cruise but suggest that the company add more detail to their website. Thank you for a fun and safe sail on the York River!

Weather was a bummer

Me and my wife scheduled this as our initial activity on our recent trip to Williamsburg Va. We were intially supposed to go on the cruise on Friday June 10th. We had to reschedule due to a bad storm that came through the area. That was fine. We ended up doing the Ghost of Williamsburg tour that night instead of Saturday, and rescheduling the cruise for Saturday June 11th. Again, even though we went out we were only on the water for an hour of a two hour cruise due to weather. Now I realize that no one can control what mother nature does, but we could have been given a free t-shirt, key chain or something considering that we got screwed out of an hour on a cruise that was supposed to last 2 hours. I feel like me and my wife paid $70 for a 2 hr cruise and got cheated out of $35.

Informational as well as entertaining

During our two hour cruise up the York River, the schooner's pilot provided historical information about the many landmarks located along the banks of the River as well as those visible nearby. He was willing to share his knowledge of the area and was able to answer questions of the attendees on the cruise. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

Very Informative Crew
Wed, Jun 8, 11   11:00 AM KNBurke Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Although the ads are careful to keep our expectations down (this is NOT a guided or narrated cruise), the crew members offered a substantial amount of unsolicited information about the vessel as well as some sites along the river. Inviting guests to help hoist (is that the right word?) the sails was great!

One of the tour guides was hot which made the trip great. Not worth what you pay, but would do it again if it became cheaper, but all in all in was a nice relaxing sail.

My wife and I have lived in the local area for more than 15 years and only wished we had taken the sunset cruise years earlier. We celebrated our 25th anniversary and it couldn't have had a more enjoyable event. The Captain made the cruise very pleasant and all the more worth while as he answered all our questions about the ship, local history and even let me take the helm while underway! I would recommend the sunset cruise to any couple who wants a romantic sunset evening together while having a very good time with the Captian and crew. Excellent time with pictures to last a lifetime. Thank you for the cannon salute, it topped our evening!

Nice Time on the Water

Our trip on the Alliance Schooner on the York River was very pleasant. My father, who is 90, was with us and the crew was very helpful in getting him situated. Captain Greg was very personable and knowledgeable and we enjoyed the voyage very much. We look forward to doing it again when there is a little more wind to power the sails.
