We sailed on the Schooner Alliance. It was a wonderful activity. The weather of course played a key part -- bright sun, slight breeze, comfortable temperature and low humidity. The crew was friendly, funny, and helpful. The young lady (from Connecticut) who taught us how to identify a schooner was delightful. Her factual information, laced with at humor at every turn, set the tone for the entire trip. The only thing that would have made it better is if we had sailed under the bridge up the river and back as the cruise before ours and the one after ours did. We seemed to sail just a ways down river and then spent the rest of the time more-or-less crossing from one side of the river to the other and then returning to the dock. All in all, a very relaxing couple of hours, which is just what we were looking for. We highly recommend it. Oh yes, the dolphins were frosting on the cake!! |

We went on the 2-4 p.m. sail on a sunny windy day. Perfect conditions! The crew was friendly and gave background on the history of the area and was happy to answer any questions about the boat and about sailing in general. It's a schooner so, as the crew said "it's built for speed" which means that it keels sharply in the wind. This was fun for most of us, but our elderly mom wasn't too into that part of it! |

We were looking for something fun to do other than history. Found this wonderful sailboat cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. Crew was great, boat is nice and long and tall. You can even help rig up the sails. Hated to see the ride end, it was so much fun and relaxing. Highly recommend. |

We cannot think of one element of the evening that could have been better.
We especially enjoyed learning about the ship and sailing from Sarah and Matt. |

We enjoyed the sunset. The cruise focused more on sailing and all aspects of the sailboat. We expected a little more description of the sights along the York River and maybe a brief history of the area. The seating was a little crowded and awkward. Also, it was advertised a romantic sunset cruise: there were lots of school children aboard. |

Sunset cruise was so relaxing and romantic...........peaceful, friendly and educating crew ~ they explained the difference between a schooner and a sail boat. Several other "sailers" helped to raise the sails. They also had the least expensive beer we had on our vacation!! Would recommend this for couples ~ maybe the earlier day cruises for families. We would definitely make this part of our vacation if we visit the area again! |

My husband, myself, and my father went on the 11:00am cruise for my father's 88th birthday. The Captain and the ship mates were very friendly and informative. They encouraged us to participate in the raising and lowering of the sails and were very knowledgeable about the sail boat. It was very relaxing and overall a most pleasent cruise. My husband and I want to go on the sunset cruise someday. |

The crew and captain were warm and friendly. The cruise was relaxing and educational. We discussed local history with the crew who were very well versed on the role of local boats and citizens during the Battle of Yorktown.
Our car club makes an annual trip to Williamsburg and by unanimous decision, will include the Alliance sunset cruise on our wish list.

Arriving a half hour early to board is too early....to stand in the hot sun without a place to sit. It should be explained that there are no seats on the boat ....hard for "not young passengers". There wasn't much to see( we just seemed to circle in the river)....unless the act of sailing was enough. The sunset cruise would have been more interesting. |
