We enjoyed this activity greatly. The crew was very knowledgeable and answered all questions we had. The Captain and the crew were great, would highly recommend this to anyone who was going to do this. We had reservations for the sunset cruise, but the weather did not permit us going and we were able to reschedule for the following day at 11:00 AM. The weather was wonderful.

This was a nice diversion from the run-run-run of the Williamsburg area. Captain and crew very good about informing and involving those who want to be involved.

Great Crew & Sunset, Annoying Music
Wed, Jul 29, 09   6:30 PM tsolomon Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
The ship is lovely, the crew friendly and gracious, and we were fortunate in having a beautiful sunset evening. The entire evening, which we anticipated as being romantic and peaceful, was changed with the addition of two musicians, one of whom was admittedly talented, but ... relentless .. in performing almost nonstop for two hours to a captive audience that was not really into the music. I would not take this cruise again unless I was sure I could hear the water, the birds, the wind in the sails. The crew introduced the duo as a "special treat" so maybe they aren't there often. Check in advance.

WHAT A DELIGHT!

Two hours of total relaxation and joy. My husband and my 25-year-old son agree with this description. It was the best thing we did during our three days in the historical Williamsburg area. The captain of the Alliance was very knowledgeable of the area and the history that went with it. He had a great sense of humor and had us all laughing. The crew was eye candy for us old ladies. They were very nice, too. We took a buggy ride in Williamsburg and it lasted 15 minutes and the driver told us nothing about all the history around us. We recommend this cruise highly. It's worth every cent!

Loved this trip!

We loved this trip! We took this trip as a last minute "that sounds like it would be nice" kind of thing. Both of thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Everything worked very easy from making the arrangements, to finding the dock, to sitting back on the deck and watching the scenery. We also learned quite a bit about sailing from the very friendly crew. Would do this kind of trip again in a heartbeat.

more pajazz

The crew needed to be informative. It would have been nice if they could tell us what we were seeing on shore or what body of water was ahead. Tell us more about the ship, how it works. Maybe some music playing. It was not a very interesting ride. It's like you were scared to do or ask or even talk to you friends. It needs more, more pajazz. It was a nice ride but it need more atmosphere for a sunset sail.

Relaxing and Interesting

The cruise was a leisurely and scenic trip up and down the York River. Not a "high powered" history lesson, not flashy - but a brief and interesting view of the workings of a sailing ship. You could choose to help trim the sails, or, just sit back in the breeze and watch the shoreline or the school of dolphin we encountered. The Captain knew just enough Revolutionary and Civil War history of the area to point out some significant points at which troops engaged or ships blocked enemies at the shore and who the key players were. But it was not so taxing as to ruin the theraputic effect of the sun and wind. The crew generously offered answers to passengers' questions regarding the ship, the local area, and the sailors' way of life in all seasons.

We had schedule this event as an end to a week's vacation in the Wlliamsburg, VA area. We schedule the sunset cruise and it was a very pleasant evening. The sunset was beautiful, the cruise was so peaceful; and, we even saw some porpoises. We will deffinately schedule again when in the Williamsburg area.

Beautiful views of the river

My daughters and I took the 2 hour morning sail -- it was a beautiful day, but not much wind. The crew was especially attentive and asked for volunteers to help putting up the sails and taught the kids the proper names of the rigging. Because there was almost no wind, it was really a 'motor sail', but very enjoyable. We ordered the boxed lunches and they were very good -- just not too kid friendly. I would be nice to have a box lunch offered that had pre-teen tastes in mind. This is definitley a low-energy activity that older and/or tired tourists would enjoy. There is enough excitement to keep the little kids entertained, but just sitting and watching the river move by is great after a day of visiting all the walk-around attractions in the area. Remember to put on sunscreen and to wear a hat! It gets pretty warm out on the water and there is not much shade on deck.

My husband and I debated for hours on whether to go on the Sunset Cruise on the Alliance or not. We thought it was a little pricey for a 2 hour cruise. Afterwards, we both said it was worth double!! What a fabulous night. The crew was awesome. Very friendly and made us feel at home. The other guests were great, and the ship wasn't too crowded. It was definetly the hi-light of our vacation!

loved the ride...sunset was beautiful.

My husband and I took the sunset cruise which was terrific. Wouldn't bill the sunset cruise as romantic since families with children were onboard too, but the cruise was fun, a nice way to meet other people and something different to do while vacationing in Williamsburg. The crew were very informative about the ship and interacted with all of us. I am a photographer and was able to capture some wonderful sunset sailing pictures. I would definitely do it again.
