while at wiliamsburg we tried to find something that we had not done before. we found this trip on a website before we left on vacation. although it sounded like fun on the web, when we arrived at the dock i was a little apprehensive at seeing the schooner. what a great surprise! my husband had this planned and we had a great time. the trip was so relaxing. wish we could have taken another trip at night!

A very enjoyable sail. It was a relaxing activity after a long drive to vacation in the Historic Triangle. A little more breeze would have been nice, but Mother Nature did not want to cooperate with that one. The crew answered all questions that we had about what we were seeing.

Hot With Little Wind

Winds were forecast to be 10 to 20 knots but they were minimum. The engine was used to propel the boat a great deal of the time. Temperature was in the mid 90's so it was not much fun sweating buckets. Do not recommend this cruise on hot windless days.

Thank you so much for the great sailing trip. The crew was wonderful, friendly, attentive and interactive. My granddaughter was thrilled that she got to help put the sails up. All questions were answered. The crew gave a great history of the area and talked to each of us personally. This was a fun and relaxing experience. I have already recommended this to friends.

Romantic, relaxing, and casual environment. Great witty crew. To try something new, this was cool! Perfect amount of time for a cruise like this. Would absolutely go again. Next time would like to take the whole family on one of there day cruises.

The sunset cruise is really nice. would be better with live music. If you can incorporate a couple of drinks along with the rates of the tickets, it would be a good deal

Here's your chance to ride on an authentic sailing ship. Totally cool, absolutely beautiful, and very educational. Something for all ages and personalities, and a great bargain!

Great Evening Activity
Wed, Jul 20, 11   6:30 PM cflowers6 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Took the evening sail July 20, 2011 after an incredibly HOT day. The trip was a wonderful way to end a summer day. The crew was friendly and shared information about the area. The captain gave a history lecture during the ride that my father completely enjoyed. (He's a History Channel junkie, so it says a lot that Dad was impressed with the lecture.) I would have liked there to be more benches or seats to sit in instead of finding a random place on the deck, but the boat has been designed to look like an 18th century schooner and I guess they didn't worry about the comfort of the crew back then. Overall, it was worth the $37.00 each. The only other thing I would say is make sure you are aware of the cancellation policy - there is none - and make sure you have time to reschedule in case there is bad weather and the captain cancels the trip. They only offer rescheduling - absolutely no refunds. A little scary for a group of 9.

Tall ship experience is worth it
Thu, Jul 14, 11   2:00 PM Cfaught Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
I am a recreational sailor and have owned sailboats in past so I understand how a good sail experience is totally dependent on what that the weather is doing. The day we sailed on Yorktown River was about perfect for summer sailing 74 degrees and nice wind. The captain and crew taught all of us about tall ship sailing. Food for the grandkids was $3 hotdogs, their preference. We would do it again with that kind of weather.

Enjoyable activity, but nothing special.

The crew was friendly and informative, but the excursion was nothing. We were in sight of the dock for the whole time. We saw nothing new and felt like we were standing still.

For our anniversary

My wife and I had a wonderful time. The crew provided historical info about the York River, they were social to the point of being friendly and approachable but not consuming the guests. The night weather was perfect, sunset was beautiful, and we had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people. The ship is beautiful and well maintained. We would highly recommend the cruise for a relaxing 2 hours out on the water. Bring a camera!

My wife and I very much enjoyed the sunset cruise! Beautiful views, entertaining and informative crew, and very convenient access with free covered parking! The River Walk area is gorgeous and boasts great restaurants, too. We will happily repeat the experience upon our next visit!
