Seller: Sanctuary
(Sanctuary Cruises)

Seller Description:
At Sanctuary Cruises, our respect and dedication for our natural environment is without equal in the industry, from the owner to the captains and crew. Since 1991, our owner has been a captain for a large international environmental organization, Greenpeace, on the front lines, campaigning directly to save the whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

Our captains, Noel and Andrew, are United States Coast Guard licensed vessel masters. Noel is a skilled naturalist and thoroughly enjoys sharing his love and knowledge for whales with our guests. Andrew has sailed in every ocean and circumnavigated the globe at least twice. Most of his seafaring has been in the pursuit of environmental causes.

Hillary  is our Senior Deckhand as well as a Naturalist and Bird Specialist. She is a favorite of our guests.

Activity Description
Whale watching on the Monterey Bay is a year-round adventure. We see whales and/or dolphins on well over 95% of our trips, so bring your sense of wonder, awe and anticipation on what may well be the adventure of a lifetime.

Our cruises are long enough to allow plenty of time to see whales and dolphins in a relaxed manner. Learn from our skilled naturalists aboard the perfect vessel for intimate whale encounters - the stout, able and sea-kindly Sanctuary!

  • Summer: A great time for whale watching here! Humpbacks, blues, sperm whales, fin whales, minke whales, orcas and more can be found on our waters.
  • Fall: Some of our best weather is in the fall, when we have many calm, beautiful days and marine life galore. Killer whales are often the highlight of these trips.
  • Winter: All winter, we see gray whales, with orcas showing up every so often.
  • Spring: The humpback whales are part of a population of over 900 whales that are born in the winter in Mexican waters. They migrate up here to feed spring through fall.
We also see dolphins and porpoises, including Northern Right Whale dolphins, Dall's porpoises, Risso's dolphins, Pacific White-sided dolphins, as well as harbor seals, sea otters, sea lions, and local and migratory birds.

How we operate around marine mammals: It's their world and we are the visitors. When you join us, you'll see how we work and how the whales respond. You'll feel as though you entered their world with grace and you may well hold that in a special place inside you long after you've stepped off our boat at the dock.

What Is Not Included?
We have a snack bar on board Sanctuary with coffee, teas, cocoa, chips, crackers, muffins, candy bars, waters, sodas and juices. Bring cash if you'd like to treat yourself! (Snacks range between $1-$2 each.) You can also bring your own food and beverages on board, but no coolers please.
