LOTS OF FUN! We saw 'Killer whales', 'Humpback whales', dolphin, sealions. Even in summer, be prepared for cool to cold conditions. Bring a warm coat.

Fantastic

Boy what a great time we had. We watched 3 killer whales for at least an hour and a half, not 25 feet from the boat. The pilot of the Sanctuary was great at finding and following these huge mammals. We also saw 7 or 8 hump back whales.....a lot different live versus television. Magnificent!!!!

It was an amzing trip!

My husband and I had a fabulous time. I went into it thinking, 'okay, if we don't see any whales it will still be great to go out onto the water'. I need not have worried we saw so many whales, both orcas and humpbacks. I t wa spectacular seeing those majestic animals up so close. We went in August and after getting off the boat both my husband and I said we would like to return in the winter or maybe early spring to see other types of whales. It was absolutely worth every penny and to top it all off both Francisco and Noel, our captain, were friendly and knowledgeable.

Things to Consider
Tue, Aug 12  9:30 AM jbrownstein Female 40-49 Combination Family With Children
In general, the cruise was very fun. Major issues: * there were 2 elderly people on the cruise, and not enough attention was paid to make sure they could see the whales - either by positioning the boat, or asking other customers to make room for them to see. * the cruise was billed as a 4 hour cruise, but ended within 3-3.5 hours. Overall, the crew was very nice and informative.

Lovely trip on a small boat

It was cold, windy and very foggy. We didn't see any of the animals that are in the range of the 95% chance ;-) (No humbacks, no dolphins) but wat was very special was the spermwhale 'breathing' on the surface for a few minutes before diving. Lovely! Next to this, just before the boat would return home, a small group of killer whales approached us. Would they kill the sea lion hanging around or not? They didn't, but approached the boat a few times. We also saw a sunfish and jumping sea lions, a lot of pelicans and just wild sea (I think half the boat became sick halfway hihi!). We prefered this trip above the big boats that depart from Monterey. Nice people with a lot of knowlegde on a nice boat. One little tip; bring a blanket and/or rain jackets to stay warm!

Successful whale watching, too crowded
Sun, Aug 10  9:00 AM dzukowski Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
We were successful in finding a small family of killer whales and a large sperm whale preparing for a dive. There were a lof of passengers for the size of the boat which made seeing the sightings difficult. If you weren't already on the correct side of the boat, it would be difficult to find a spot in time. Fewer passengers would make a more pleasurable experience.

Although we did not see the expected Humpbacks, we did see Orcas and a Sperm whale. It was a great experience and the captain and mate were fun and informative. I will definitely go out with Sanctuary again!

Our whale-watching trip on 8/9/08 was amazing! We saw a pod of killer whales, several humpback whales, and a number of dolphins. The killer whales swam right underneath the boat! They were so close to the boat that it was hard to believe. I would definitely recommend this trip. And our guide, Noel? was excellent.

I've been out with Sanctuary twice. They are absolutely awesome. Small boat (not crowded). Great crew. Also, very committed to whale research and monterey bay environment.

Our whale watching cruise was awesome and very reasonably priced. Jane and the Captain were excellent guides, full of information and truly were interested in making our cruise memorable. One of the best things about the cruise was the boat was not over filled with whale watchers! There was ample room for all of us to have prime whale viewing.

What a great cruise! The crew (Captain and Jane) were totally professional while working hard to guarantee us a marvelous cruise. They succeeded. We saw many humpback whales, different kinds of dolphins, plus many seals and sea otters.

We had a wonderful time. A little overcast, but what can one expect on the coast. The captain was in touch with other boast and we found several whales, dolphins, lots of dolphins and he told us about the different whales and dolphins, seals etc how they lived and how long, big etc. Was a wonderful trip and we plan on going out again. Was great.

My husband and I are seniors and have disabilities, he has arthritis in his knees and I have had both knees replaced. I was a little concerned about doing the trip. I had to be careful when the boat was rocking around so I just stayed seated until I felt I could move around without losing my balance. We had not been on the water very long when the first whale was spotted. We saw whales do everything that whales do. What a fantastic experience we had! I'm ready to do it again.

Great experience
Sun, Aug 3  9:00 AM stemil Female 20-29 Local Group of Friends
Some friends and I went on the whale watching tour. We took the 4 hour tour. The crew was pleasant, attentive, and informative. We saw two whales (humpback). It was cold, so bring an extra coat along. You can get wet, so water proof is ideal. One of my friends was worried about getting sea sick and purchased the wristband. It didn't seem to work for her though -- she still got sick. I took a motion sickness pill before we left and was fine the entire trip. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd recommend EVERYONE do this at least once!
