Guided Nature Tour & Cruise of Charleston Harbor

I learned about Sandlapper Tours when I chaperoned my son's class trip to Charleston in May. At the time, I knew we would be entertaining our two nephews from New Hampshire for a week. The trip was such a hit, I took a picture of the boat so I would have the phone number and could book a return visit. The second trip was everything it promised: informational -- with both history and marine biology (I learned about pregnant crabs); fun -- the boat ended up in a pod of dolphins at feeding time; and relaxing -- walking along a deserted beach as Morris Island. The kids loved it, and my husband and I had fun too.

Highly recommend! We felt we got our money's worth and more. The naturalist was incredibly knowledgeable in his field AND he knew a great deal of historical information about the area as well. The crew ensured that we were able to see and experience everything possible. Take this tour - it is awesome!

Pre-back to school trip for me, wife, and 10 year old son. Pretty much a last minute decision and glad we made it. Fortunately for us a very small group participated on this overcast day and we basically had the staff and boat to ourselves. Very enjoyable and educational excursion. Saw numerous dolphin, the kids loved learning facts about the blue crabs we were able to retrieve from the crabpots, and everyone had a blast collecting a variety of seashells from the beach along Morris Island. The crew was very personable and took time to explain numerous historical points, landmarks along the way, and facts about local marine life. Parking was convenient to the dock (and free), ticket purchase was uncomplicated, and the overall experience surpassed our expectation. If I had to find a downside (and it's hard to) I guess we'd suggest adding another hour or two to the trip as no-one was really ready to leave so soon. We had a blast and would certainly recommend adding this attraction to your vacation itenerary.......well worth the $$.

Our 11 year old daughter loved the tour. Don't let the title "nature" tour fool you, there's much more especially the beautiful sights. I would highly recommend this tour.

The Nature/Dolphin tour is a great way to spend the afternoon. We left the dock and went saw a working crab trap then headed to Morris Island. There were pods of Dolphins no more than 30 feet away from the island feeding and we got some great pics. We strolled up and down the beach collecting shells and shark teeth. We headed back and again were able to snap some pictures of dolphins and Ft. Sumter as we cruised by. The captain was great and the other gentleman was extremely nice and informative.

I was excited about this tour as I had been on other wonderful tours in this same area before. I was called and notified that we would be the only 2 on the boat as there were no others who signed up. We thought this was great. Like our own private charter. The capt was friendly and down to earth, as well as the guide. They were very nice dont get me wrong. But we didnt get a lot of history or facts about the island. Once we got to the island we were allowed to look for shells and explore at our own pace. However there was really minimal things there to see. We didnt have an awful time by any means. We just felt since there wasnt a large group all the info and history were just left out. We did get to see lots of dolphins which was great. This trip was just average and I was a lil bit disappointed.

That was one of the best tours ever!! The fact that the crab trap was pulled and you were able to get off at the island was perfect!!! I would be the poster woman for this tour any day!

The tour was not crowded and we received personalized interaction with the tour guides and the boat captain. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to see dolphins up close. The boat was clean and comfortable and overall the experience was very enjoyable.

My family and I were very pleased when we realized that we were experiencing dolphins fishing for their food. It was truly amazing to see nature at work. The pelicans and other birds flying around were taking full advantage of the dolphins and their remarkable fishing ability. The naturalist on board was very informative and light hearted. Her explanation about how to tell a female blue crab from a male blue crab was entertaining and memorable. We would definitely come back for more.
