Activity Description
Famous for its tree-lined cobblestone streets, historic buildings and creative Bohemian residents, Greenwich Village is also a wonderful area for a food-centered walking tour.
South of Washington Square Park, the Village is still steeped in its ethnic Italian origins although the peak was at the beginning of the century. The area around Bleecker Street remains the heart of this neighborhood.
Highlights of this four-hour tour include: - A charming Italian caffe where we absorb the atmosphere over a cappuccino.
- The smallest house in Manhattan
- Homes of famous writers
- A historic theater
- A hidden private courtyard
- A Prohibition-era speakeasy
- A lattaccini where we will taste the best freshly made mozzarella this side of Naples.
Lunch at a local trattoria
Walking down Bleecker Street, we make several stops at Italian food stores which are still thriving after all these years. We'll enjoy a tasting in a famous cheese store, an olive oil store, a pork store, a 100 year old coffee shop, a pasta store, a market that sells artisanal honey, and a bakery.
Time for a lunch break and what a lunch! It has been especially prepared for us at the best trattoria in the area.
What Is Not Included?
If you think you might want to make additional purchases along the way, please bring cash and/or a credit card. We will be happy to suggest where to buy the best products in the neighborhood.
