A great neighborhood orientation

Aida is an excellent tour guide. A fun, small group of people--I did not envy the other tour groups we ran into with 30+ people! Excellent sampling of what Greenwich Village has to offer in its markets and shops. A very good pace for a tour. Four hours flew by. Although it was billed as an architecture and culinary tour, it definitely skewed to the culinary destinations--which was perfect for my tastes, but may not meet others' expectations. I'm enjoying all my tasty souvenirs, and planning for my next visit to the city with all the educational materials I received.

Fun and informative but not quite what I expected

The walk was informative, friendly and fun, mainly thanks to our guide Eileen who was a talkative local. However there really was very little walking, we missed the galleries (which had been a signifcant part of my reason for doing the tour) and the water taxi was not available on the day. To me these things were not critical as I had time to go and see the galleries afterwards, but they would prevent me from recommending the tour.

Great combo of exercise, information, and food

I enjoyed the warmth and friendliness of our guide--and the information she provided made Soho more interesting. Of course, great food. Far better than the average bus tour--nothing beats walking the streets with someone who has a passion for her work. Thank you so much!

Mutli Ethnic Tour Hell's Kitchen- Savory Sojourns

Addie gave us a look at a peice of New York that we would never been able to expereince on our own. Not only were we able to "taste our way" through the neighborhood, Addie's knowledge and stories about the area added greatly to our New York experience. We are anxious to return and go on a few more "savory sojourns" with Addie. This is a MUST DO- for out of towners AND locals! Ellyn & Kenney

Excellent day out - strongly recommend

I booked this for a birthday treat for my wife as part of our trip to New York, and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this or any other tour with Savory Sojourns. Addie was a fantastic host, and the fact that everyone else on our tour was a "repeat customer" put our minds at rest instantly. The tour of Little Italy was fantastic, we visited all types of food emporiums, cheese making demonstrations, tastings everywhere and ending up with a great meal, in a restaurant we would never have otherwise found. Have no worries at all about booking a tour with this company, it is a genuine treat for anyone who enjoys a great day out (and also with a fondness for food!!)

Adorable Addie's Unique Adventure

We continue to enjoy seeing NYC through the eyes of Addie! She is enthusiastic about HER city and is a wealth of knowledge of the area. She makes every effort to make the tour interesting and FUN! We have a better understanding of the different parts of NYC that she has "walked" us through. The most enjoyable activity is sitting down over lunch and a lovely bottle of wine and reviewing our day! It's evident that she loves people and her city! We are looking forward to our next Addie Adventure!

I finally "got" the Village.
Sat, Nov 4, 06   10:00 AM ladymelvin Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
We (my husband and I) have vacationed in NYC 3-4 times a year for 25 years, and thought we knew most of the nooks and crannies. Though we usually stay 'uptown', we have often wandered the streets of the Village. But until we participated in the Savory Sojourns tour through the Italian Greenwich Village we never "got it". The tour goes beyond the vintage shops and coffee houses and gets right to the heart and soul of the village. I was so touched by the richness of each of the places to which we were introduced, that I already have plans to spend my next vacation in one of the B&B's in the heart of the village. I highly recommend this tour, and though this was my first Savory Sojourns event, I plan to work future vacations around their other offerings. The website does a better job than I in describing each stop, and the personal touch from the owner of these tours makes you know, from the beginning, that this is something special. I would go so far as to invite native New Yorkers to participate as well. As I have been told by many locals, they just don't get around to getting out and enjoying the city. These tours teach you more in a few hours than you could discover on your own in years. A++++

A GREAT WAY TO SPEND A DAY!

After five years of trying to coordinate my annual fall theater trip to NYC with a walking tour by Savory Sojourns, this fall finally saw it happen. What a thoroughly enjoyable day! My girlfriend and I met Addie and the other four people in our group at the famous Balthazar Restaurant. in SoHo. A brief orientation was given while we drank coffee and ate scrumptious Balthazar Breakfast Speciality Treats. We spent the next few hours visiting small shops in SoHo and Little Italy. Addie seemed to know everyone and the shop owners treated us like royalty. We received tasty samples at many of the places we visited. My very favorite stop was at MarieBelle Chocolates....the samples were extraordinary! The tour ended with a fantastic lunch at IL CORTILE which is a Landmark in Little Italy. It was very Interesting to me that the two men in our group seemed to like the tour as much as the gals did. This tour is for everyone and I recommend it highly!

Fun But Overpriced
Thu, Sep 28, 06   10:00 AM vpeters Female 50-59 Local Other
The tour was enjoyable, and lunch was great, but thought it was a bit expensive for what we got. Addie is knowledgeable, interesting and good at what she does, but the stops at the culinary shops (i.e. Sur La Table & Dean & DeLucca) were too short to really be of any value. The Italian & Spanish deli stops were very good, as was the chocolate shop, and the samples were good. Lunch was delicious and plentiful. A fun day but a bit overpriced for what it was. Cut the price to $100 per person and you'd have a true winner!

Not even the rain could diminish our enthusiasm. With a small group and a very knowledgeable tour guide, we were able to see places, learn historical facts, sample delicacies, shop and enjoy a sumptuous meal with very congenial fellow tourists.

My 21 year old daughter and myself shared a fantastic day with Eileen and Addie touring SoHo and Little Italy. We stopped at 15 locations, and enjoyed ourseves so much, we have returned to shop and eat additional times. The ladies made us feel like family immediately and are extremely knowledgable. We are looking forward to a return trip in the near future with them. This is the best way to become familar with the neighborhoods of NYC.

Gallery a misnomer
Fri, May 12, 06   10:00 AM ssabater Female 50-59 Local Other
I enjoyed that the size of the group was small and the leader, Addie Tomei, is very personable and enthusiastic. However, the "gallery" portion of the tour was completely lacking and might have been helped if the tour operator had done some research. The tour started at 10AM but most galleries do not open until 12 Noon. We walked around (the views, as advertised, are spectacular) but were eventually able to get into only 1 very small photographic gallery. Another gallery we tried to get into was closed to install a new exhibit. It seems someone could have called ahead. After the 1 gallery we had lunch and it was time for the tour to end after a quick stop at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. I would have enjoyed knowing more about the creative aspect of this neighborhood and that was not part of the tour.

As an avid New York City tour goer, I recently went on the Italian Greenwich Village tour with Savory Sojourns. What a fantastic and tasty experience! Addie Tomei is interesting, knowledgeable, and fun. A must for any native New Yorker, day tripper, or tourist visiting New York.

Great Intimate and Interactive Tour

I thoroughly enjoyed my tour on April 26,2006 of Greenwich Village. The initial meeting of the group was a nice way to start the tour with pastry and coffee. It made it that much easier to walk and discuss things with the group (especially since I attended the tour alone and many others came with friends). I enjoyed the history of each shop and the neighbourhood eclectic nuances we were told. My highlight was the old speak easy - what a delight to hear about. The size of the tour (7 in total) was so managable. It kept it very itimate and comfortable given the hustle and bustle of the streets. It was lovely to sample foods at each stop and shop as we liked. I would hightly recommend this tour and hope to attend others on my next visit to NY. Cheers!

See the "Real Little Italy in New York"

My friend and I were looking for something fun and different to do while in New York. We decided on a tour through Savory Sojourns. We did the Arthur Avenue tour of Little Italy in the Bronx with Addie Tomei and Aida. What a great day we had. This tour made you feel like you were in Italy. Mike's deli was great watching them make mozarella cheese and the lunch at Roberto's was fabulous. Addie and Aida were great and I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the "Real Little Italy in New York". Brenda Hotham
