A great example of how a schooner should be run

We arrived at the dock less than five minutes before FAME was scheduled to depart after getting caught in the Salem Halloween traffic. The crew was very kind to us and got us seated quickly while getting off the dock at the right time. I ran downstairs to use the head-it's a long drive from Boston!-and was really surprised and pleased with how immaculately clean the boat is. The crew was incredibly professional, friendly, efficient, and in good spirits despite the cold temperatures. Having worked for a few tall ships myself and been on many more, there are just a few boats out there that do it right and Fame definitely does it right. The tour of Salem harbor is incredibly beautiful and the cider was delicious. If you're looking for a departure from the usual tourist destinations and want a one of a kind experience, get out on the water with Fame-you'll be glad you did!

The FAME offers a chance to explore Salem's early maritime history -- not to mention soaking up some handsome coastal scenery -- on a sturdy, weatherly replica of an early 19th Century pinky schooner. The original Fame was a ground-fishing vessel turned Letter of Marque (officially-sanctioned pirate) that captured the first prizes taken by American privateers in Canadian waters during the War of 1812. You'll learn all this and more from the entertaining banter of the Fame's expert crew. (With luck, you'll draw Captain Mike.) And, if you ask nicely, you can also take the tiller (yep, she's got a tiller) and handle the Fame yourself. A must-do for any history or boat buff visiting the Witch City.

This was our first trip to Salem and we wanted to plan activities that everyone would enjoy. This was THE highlight of the trip. The weather was perfect for sailing on an autumn afternoon. The captain and crew were very friendly and knowledgeable. We were also excited at the opportunity to assist in raising the sails as we left the dock area. This trip was one that created memories that will last for a very long time. I'm still smiling!

Wonderful, absolutely memorable and we'll do it again. We live in Salem, and this is now one of our top favorite things to do, along with the Peabody Essex Museum. Captain was fantastic, really informative with his commentary. Relaxed and enjoyable. It was as fun for the older people in our group as for our 4 year old. Really captured being under sail in a privateer. We were really impressed and amazed by the obvious passion for sailing and history that inspired these folks to commission this replica ship to be designed and built from scratch. This is a real gem, tourists should make this a priority when in Salem. We'll definitely take out of town friends on the Fame.

The Schooner Fame crew were great. Professional, friendly, outgoing and interacted very well with all the passengers. THe ship itself was very well maintained, clean and comfortable. We had the perfect day for a sail. Sunny, warm but not humid with a light breeze over the harbor. The Captain, Jeremy picked a great route that took us by Marblehead harbor and towards ghe many islands and lighthouses in Salem Sound. We left the ship wishing we could stay on as crew! My 9 year old daughter had never been sailing and afterwards told my fiance and I she had the best time. We will be sailing with them again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fun cruise.

This was a great trip! Sailing on a replica of a privateer schooner was a unique experience. The captain/owner was very knowledgeable about the history of the original vessel, as was his crew. And passengers got to raise and lower the sails. Water and snacks are sold on board, and they do sell T-shirts and hats afterwards. The whole trip was about an hour and 45 minutes long, and it was really nice being out in the harbor alongside all the other smaller boats, with the wind rippling the sails.
