Great overview of some local restaurants
Thu, Oct 1  3:00 PM tushah Female 30-39 Local Group of Friends
My husband and I (who have lived in Seattle 6+ years) signed up to take this tour with a friend who was visiting from Chicago. The reason we were motivated is because she wanted to try a bunch of different restaurants, and we wanted specifically to try some of the newer restaurants scheduled to be on the tour. We really enjoyed it; the food was really good, the company was great and the bit of history thrown in along the way from the guide was really interesting and worthwhile. It's a walking tour so you get to walk through downtown/belltown a bit which is nice (depending on the weather) and the amount of food/wine you get for the price is fair--you'd spend the same on a dinner at a nice restaurant with wine, etc. Try it! It was fun! You get to speak to a few of the chefs and learn what inspires them, where they get their produce, etc, and meet some nice out-of-towners!

We had a really great time on this tour. Steve was our guide and gave us a quick overview of the market. The food we sampled was delicious. All four in our group had a great time. Would tell anyone that is was worth while.

Great way to check out Belltown
Sat, Sep 26  3:00 PM sarahkimsey Female 30-39 Local Couple on a Date
This was our first weekend away from our toddler. We really enjoyed the tour, as we don't get out much and we felt like this was a way for us to experience some of what Belltown had to offer as tourists in our own area. We only live a short 30-40 minutes away, but never get to downtown, and now we know of several great places to take friends from out of town! Tthe amount of walking was perfect and leisurely. Steve was able to tell us about some of the history of that district and also about each of the history of the restaurants and their owners, which we found really interesting! We even lucked out and one of the chefs came out to talk with us about her experience on the nationwide tv show "Top Chef." We definitely recommend this to out-of-towners and also people like us, tourist in our own town! Completely worth the 50 bucks!

I didn't realize how much history we would be getting about the market. I never would have been able to sample so many amazing foods if it wasn't for the tour. Heather was very knowledgeable, fun and a great tour guide. I highly recommend taking this tour on your trip to Seattle.

Seattle Highlight!
Thu, Sep 24  12:00 PM nedmiller Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Unspecified
This tour was definately one of our Seattle highlights! We considered just seeing Pike Market on our own but decided to take the tour instead. This tour was well worth the money. Steve, our guide, was fun and very informative. He gave us just the right amount of history to make it interesting but not enough to make it boring. He took us to places we would have never found or gone to on our own. He took us to Pure Fish, and told us about his favorite fish monger (sp?) there as we ate a big sample of his favorite smoked salmon. We went to the "gum wall" in a back alley where thousands and thousands of of people stuck their already-chewed-gun on brick walls - VERY interesting!!!! :-) We'd have never found that on our own! It was a very fun thing to see. We sampled wonderful gelato, cheese & salami, best-of- the-best cookies, truffle popcorn, the best clam chowder in the world!, the only made- fresh-daily-crumpets (sp?) in the world! as well as enjoyed a wonderful antipasto plate at the Pink Door. I hope I didn't miss anything. The whole tour was great. Like I said, well worth the time and the money. Thank you, Steve! Ned & Diane - Cambridge, IA

Getting to know the city
Tue, Sep 22  3:00 PM sstarbuck63 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This was a very easy and tasty way to experience a different area of the city. The food was really diverse and very good. Steve did a good job of explaining the history and showing us around. I was surprised of how much this area of Seattle has to offer in great cuisine.

Penny is an awesome tour guide! She was so much fun to listen to and extremely entertaining! We had a blast... She really made this tour for us. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone that is going to Seattle. The places that she took us to sample the food were perfect. You would not know to go to a lot of these places without a guide. It was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Seattle.

Sloooooow food movement :-)
Sat, Sep 19  3:00 PM segonzalez Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Steve, one of the owning partners, led this tour on a Saturday afternoon. The group consisted of mostly senior citizen tourists and their local Bainbridge friends. We started off essentially on time at Lola (I think) for grilled pita and three tasty dips. Each person had about 2 pita quarters. After that it was a slooooow walk to the next restaurant. It was slow in part because the group had soem slow walkers, and in part because Steve was giving us alot of Belltown history. The Bainbridge locals seemed to enjoy the history. Also slow because we were waiting for one person using the restroom. And we spent alot of time waiting for numerous crosswalk lights to change. I would recommend incorporating the history chat in one/some of the restaurants, especially if the group of walkers is slow. Eventually we made it to Queen's Something where we enjoyed a crabcake slider(crabcakes on buns). Beer/wine/cocktails were available to order. We really lingered here a while. Afterward we headed to a Basque tapas restaurant where each of us tasted one baguette slice topped with chorizo sausage and bitter shaved chocolate. I enjoyed it, but a few folks did not care for it. Steve showed us a neat tapas tradition where you throw a crumpled napkin on the floor if you enjoyed the food. My napkin was on the floor! Next was sushi at Shiro. After refreshing our hands with a hot towel, we tasted two pieces of sushi. One was cooked eel, another was raw tuna. Next stop was an Italian restaurant where one of the Top Chef contestants is an Exec Chef. This place is great. They gave us a glass of wine and a corn chowder to try. Steve says every time he takes a tour here, they serve something different. Next was a stop for a gourmet brownie (sometimes a donut) at Macrina bakery. Followed by final stop at a wine bar where we enjoyed chardonnay and shared bowls of truffled popcorn. The tour finished about half-hour late, which could be problematic for those with a tight schedule. Overall for my taste the tour moved slow and spent too much time on history and potty breaks. My personal interest was in trying lots of new and interesting foods. I would recommend that the tour add more food stops (or more types of food at each stop), and ask guests to potty before the tour or maybe a one designated stop. That same week I also took the Pike's Market Lunch Tour and happened to be the only participant. I preferred the Market tour because there was alot more food crammed into the same amount of time. I would pay $25-$30 for this tour based on the food, not $50. If you have a coupon it is a good deal. Poor Steve just had too many different types of folks to please on this tour! Thanks Steve for putting up with all of us!

Great Experience

I really liked the insiders look at the market, and an expert telling us about all of it. Our guide was great and very knowledgeable. We ended up going back to many of the places we visited and that we passed that were recommended. It was a good way to learn the market.

Our tour guide, Heather, was excellent. She was friendly, very knowledgeable about the market and Seattle, and offered great advice and ideas for the remaining days of our trip. The food on the tour was fantastic - a great sampling of what the market has to offer. We really enjoyed our tour, and would certainly recommend it to others.

Above and Beyond
Thu, Sep 17  12:00 PM segonzalez Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Let me start by saying there were some unusual circumstances that may make my experience different from the norm, but the situation sheds light on the great character of the company and tour guide. I signed up for a mid-week tour of the Market and turned out to be the only registrant. Tourguide extraordinairre Heather greeted me by name at the meeting spot, and explained it is very unusual to only have 1-2 registrants. She kindly and enthusiastically proceeded with the tour, letting me know it might be a little special, and a little faster, than a larger group tour. We sampled exotic Chinese teas, a couple of microbrews, dry-aged salami and cheese, truffles and wine, warm fresh donuts, dried local fruit, smoked salmon and salmon jerky, crumpets, two chowders, antipasto, local-made cheese and cheese curds, gelato, and probably 2-3 more items I am forgetting. The usual tour may not include all of those items -- special perks since there was just one guest and since Heather has a great relationship with the market vendors! We were also lucky that the market was not too crowded at Noon on a weekday, so the vendors had more time for us. Food was my primary focus, but Heather was also knowledgeable about the market's history and Seattle culture. She shared this info along the way in between food stops. Heather also made sure I saw some of the major sights at the market - the fish throwing place, the big piggy bank, and the old neon Market sign. We also bumped into one of the tour company owners, who happened to be grabbing a crumpet. At our last stop, Heather let me take the leftovers (it was a giant antipasto platter) and gave me directions to find a cab. After 2 hours of wining and dining together, we actually hugged before I left. Overall I enjoyed the ratio of food to walking and history (mostly food, did not spend too much time walking from place to place since the stalls are in reasonably close proximity, and we spent a little time on history but not a ton, although Heather would have gladly spent more time on history if I had been more interested in that aspect). I also took a tour of Belltown a few days later with a larger group, and definitely preferred the faster pace and food-intensity of the Market tour. Your experience will certainly be different from mine, but I hope this gives you a feel for the general character and style of the company. Cheers!

Better than a sit down lunch

We were in Seattle on business and only had a few hours of spare time the last day of our trip before heading back to DC. I already had a love of Pike Place and this made it all the more fantastic - everything we sampled was delicious. And you get some history along with it. EVERY tour in the US should offer food, that's the way to do it! :)
