Excellent Tour
Fri, Sep 18  12:00 PM bethany462 Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our tour guide, Heather, was excellent. She was friendly, very knowledgeable about the market and Seattle, and offered great advice and ideas for the remaining days of our trip. The food on the tour was fantastic - a great sampling of what the market has to offer. We really enjoyed our tour, and would certainly recommend it to others.

Above and Beyond

Let me start by saying there were some unusual circumstances that may make my experience different from the norm, but the situation sheds light on the great character of the company and tour guide. I signed up for a mid-week tour of the Market and turned out to be the only registrant. Tourguide extraordinairre Heather greeted me by name at the meeting spot, and explained it is very unusual to only have 1-2 registrants. She kindly and enthusiastically proceeded with the tour, letting me know it might be a little special, and a little faster, than a larger group tour. We sampled exotic Chinese teas, a couple of microbrews, dry-aged salami and cheese, truffles and wine, warm fresh donuts, dried local fruit, smoked salmon and salmon jerky, crumpets, two chowders, antipasto, local-made cheese and cheese curds, gelato, and probably 2-3 more items I am forgetting. The usual tour may not include all of those items -- special perks since there was just one guest and since Heather has a great relationship with the market vendors! We were also lucky that the market was not too crowded at Noon on a weekday, so the vendors had more time for us. Food was my primary focus, but Heather was also knowledgeable about the market's history and Seattle culture. She shared this info along the way in between food stops. Heather also made sure I saw some of the major sights at the market - the fish throwing place, the big piggy bank, and the old neon Market sign. We also bumped into one of the tour company owners, who happened to be grabbing a crumpet. At our last stop, Heather let me take the leftovers (it was a giant antipasto platter) and gave me directions to find a cab. After 2 hours of wining and dining together, we actually hugged before I left. Overall I enjoyed the ratio of food to walking and history (mostly food, did not spend too much time walking from place to place since the stalls are in reasonably close proximity, and we spent a little time on history but not a ton, although Heather would have gladly spent more time on history if I had been more interested in that aspect). I also took a tour of Belltown a few days later with a larger group, and definitely preferred the faster pace and food-intensity of the Market tour. Your experience will certainly be different from mine, but I hope this gives you a feel for the general character and style of the company. Cheers!

Better than a sit down lunch

We were in Seattle on business and only had a few hours of spare time the last day of our trip before heading back to DC. I already had a love of Pike Place and this made it all the more fantastic - everything we sampled was delicious. And you get some history along with it. EVERY tour in the US should offer food, that's the way to do it! :)

Nice but...

I guess I was expecting too much...I had the Chicago food tour and it was FANTASTIC. Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest and LOVING the MARKET I had too high of expectations. The tour food was good and the market sparkled...the guide was cute but no history except to show a row of photos on public display...I just felt let down. The wine shop owner was the high-light - he made us feel like 'family'. The tour ended at the Pink Door...with us facing a cement wall and the beautiful sunny Puget Sound behind us... somewhere...(where the REAL guests of the restaurant could see it..it was 2:30 and they made us feel 2nd class!) I would take a different tour company and try again next time I'm back across the country just because I KNOW and love the market and all that it has to offer!...sad they didn't really show the market (only one great deli and 1 vendor stall-she said the market was too busy(?!) the tour was more of shops around it...she also didn't say if there were discounts b/c of the tour or have coupons or something so you could go back...I just didn't think they gave it 100%.

It was our first time to Seattle and we thought this would be a great way to get a small taste of the market area and we were right! Our guide was friendly and knowledgable. The food samples were wonderful! I would highly recommend this tour for other visitors to Seattle.

Culinary Market Tour

Our guide Penny was most knowledgable and articulate. I especially enjoyed her presentation of historical information on both Seattle & the market. I would have enjoyed more information on the food and cooking. For example, we tasted cheese curds but Penny didn't go into how the curds are made and how they are turned into various cheeses. We tasted the rosmarino salami but could have learned more about how it was made. More interesting choices might have been made; for example a Swedish pastry rather than a chocolate (uncrisp) croissant. A stop at the piroshky place, especially since we could see them made, would have been a nice addition.

Penny was AWESOME, the event was not!
Sun, Sep 6  12:00 PM schroederjen Female 40-49 Local Individual
I thought our guide, Penny, was enthusiastic and informative and clearly LOVED her job. She was a good listener and obviously LOVES the market as much as I do (and more). The actual event was NOT at all what I expected and I believe it has do to the marketing of it, not the market itself. I can walk around and get FREE samples without paying $40+. PLEASE....a free chocolate at the end was the only thing I wouldn't be able to get on my own and that costs around $2.50. I thought we would be getting food that would fill us up as we toodled around (it IS called the LUNCH SAMPLER). I will not recommend this to any of my visitors or friends in the Puget Sound area. It's a BIG RIPOFF! Next time, I'll call Penny myself and meet her at the market for some fun.

Excellent idea for afternoon adventure

We had such a great time touring the market and tasting all of the delicious treats along the way. Unlike me, my boyfriend is a not much of food-lover but he loved it as much as I did. Our tour guide, Penny, made the tour upbeat, enjoyable and educational - a difficult task if you ask me.

We found some hidden market gems
Sat, Sep 5  12:00 PM sylviaoats Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our tour guide, Heather, was fabulous. She was very welcoming and got to know our group quickly. We were moved through the market expertly on a very busy Saturday. Even though we had been to the market several times, she showed us several hidden gems that we plan to visit again in the future. Our entire group of 4 thoroughly enjoyed the tour including the food. Thank you!

Great, but try to hold hands with the tour guide
Sat, Sep 5  12:00 PM Randee Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We really enjoyed the Tour at Pike Place, the food was absolutely amazing and our tour guide, Heather was very knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately, we were left behind by the group and were unable to get reconnected. Our tour guide asked us to look around a shop while she got our samples and she'd find us when it was time to go, about 10 minutes later we were wondering what had happened and couldn't find anyone with our group. We didn't know where they were going next, or how to contact our guide. It was very disappointing and frustrating. However, up until we were left, it was really very good. We thought the group size might be a bit large...we had about 15 people.

Fantastically fun (and delicious) tour

Though we're local, we brought out of town guests on the Pike Market Sampler tour and loved it! Our tour guide (Heather) was fantastic, informative, fun and kept things moving in spite of the holiday crowds. I can't recommend it highly enough! She was great and the samples were delicious (and ended up to be filling too),

local loved the tour
Fri, Sep 4  3:00 PM msprice Female 60-69 Local Group of Friends
My friend and I, who are both locals, loved the tour. We were introduced to restaurants and bistros that we had never noticed before. We learned about restaurants aside from the ones we visited. Our guide provided us with the history of the area and we learned all about the Denny Regrade and he even had pictures. It was fun to be the only locals among a group of tourists and to view our city through their eyes.

Great way to see the market
Fri, Sep 4  1:00 PM hparham Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I really enjoyed my tour of the Pike Place Market! Steve gave us the background and history of the market along with showing us the ins and outs and the little details of the market as well. The food we tasted was delicious and the owners of the shops were quite welcoming. Steve was quite knowlegable about the market and the foods we were tasting, but seemed to stumble over his words throughout the entire day, making him a little hard to listen to at times. Overall, the tasting tour was a great way to see the market!

I liked most of the things that we tasted and I wish that we had tasted some Piroshkies. I thought our tour guide was very personable and knowledgeable about the city and the places we visited. I would definitely recommend this tour to tourists and fellow Seattlites.
