Better for locals than tourists
Seattle Walking Food Tour of Belltown & Pike Place

My husband and I moved to Seattle a few months ago, we noted a number of restaurants that we'd go back and try - based on the samples or the recommendations of the guide. However, my parents were visting from PA. They noted that they enjoyed the tour, but thought it was better suited to locals - who would have time/interest in coming back to visit the restaurants spoken about but not sampled. A lot of conversation was spent talking about "down this street there's a great Mexican restaurant and a bakery..." But, snipits of info on 40 restaurants isn't useful to people in town for a weeked. I think a better experience for tourists would be focusing on "Seattle staples" or samples @ notable resturants or food from notable chefs, then discuss more about seattle architecture (as you walk by the bldgs) or history - either of Seattle or the food. The number of samples was good, though more would always be better :); The portions were surprisingly large; Everything was delicious!

I was looking for something our college-aged son and I could do with only a day. Hiking was a bit far away. At the end of the tour he said he enjoyed it and had spotted one place he'd really like to come back to. I enjoyed hearing just about a small section of Seattle. I will write up the best of the best restaurant recommendations for my local Seattle friends as a way to say thank you for hosting me.

my team had a great time on this tour. we are local, but we learned a lot about belltown and the food was great. the only downside was we thought there would be more food, so we had to go out after for lunch.

Carol was an excellent guide. She gave us the scoop on some divine chocolate from Rosie. She also steered us to some of the best Marsala we've ever had. Her companion Steve was also adept and spent time with all members of the tour. This tour was great. We had a walking five course meal while getting the lowdown on some of Seattle's finest eats. I would go on this tour again and bring my newbie friends along.

This was such a great experience. The hostess was so knowledgable - about the city, the sights, the restaurants, the chefs and the history. We only wish every city would make something just like this available. It was a tremendous resource and we used it over and over again during our stay in Seattle. We only ate at restaurants that she told us about - and she was right on in every case. If you can't tell, we loved it and would recommend it to everyone. We were able to experience things that we never would have on our own - and the tastings along the way were great - had a wonderful /breakfast/lunch during the two hour tour. Do it - you won't regret it! Best money we spent on the trip.

Wonderful Tour

This tour provided so much great information about the Belltown and Pike Place areas and restaurants. The treats along the way were wonderful and way more than expected. It was great to take this tour at the beginning of our trip as it allowed us to make decisions based on the information we had heard from the tour and not randomly pick a spot. Out of the 30+ restaurants described during the tour, we tried 7 during our 3 day stay and they all lived up to their expectations. Thanks so much! Highly recommend this tour!

We took the tour the first day of our visit and used the guide and packet information to plan the remaining four days. With just the right amount of information on style and local color, we ate every meal for the rest of the trip in a different restaurant from the tour, each well living up to the description. Carol's commentary proved right on target; clear, succinct and just enough detail to be engaging. Several locals in the group mentioned that they learned new things about the area. On a practical note, Carol kept the tour on schedule without appearing rushed or held back. I particularly appreciated the coordination with the restaurants where we would be taking samples, with everything ready to be served as we arrived. I would suggest you develop a tour adapted for the individual dependent upon a wheelchair. I know it is listed as a "walking" tour, but there is a growing population of very mobile people, lively and ready to enjoy (read "spend money at") good restaurants, but mobile by means of a wheel chair. We will be sure to find out if there is a similar tour wherever we travel.

Carol our guide was friendly and informative, but the tour was not as I expected (hoped). I imagined a kind of progressive brunch, beginning with a Latte and a warm muffin (to be eaten sitting down) and then progressing through other "courses." We began at Macrina, but standing outside in the freezing cold. We got an apple coffee cake thing from Macrina (which was cold) which I didn't care for, then we went immediately to pork barbecue. (I'm vegetarian) Somewhere a little down the line, we had a chocolate, followed by salmon salad. We ended with a wonderful tiny piece of cocoanut cream pie (served cold, in the cold). I would recommend a different progression, vegetarian options at every stop, and no "out on the sidewalk standing up" eating. I'd also make sure each place had a significant contribution to make. One little place (Xtori) seemed very friendly, but we didn't even get a chance to sit at the counter (although no one else was in there) and their offering was a tiny tiny (quarter of a sugar cube) piece of cheese on a stick and a thin thin dime-sized piece of smoked meat (which I couldn't eat)- It's a nice idea- I hope it modulates into a progressive brunch. (Of the offerings, my son said the salmon salad was good, and we both liked the sweets)

The tour was short but very detailed. The guide knew the menu, the owners and the history of every place we visited - making the tour very full and informative. For wine lovers or new-comming Seattlites this tour is a great way to find the little cozy wine cellar you always wanted or the best four star to welcome you to the city! High school seniors or other soon to be graduates would love the tour as a way to find the best place to say 'so long' to their classes! There were a variety of eateries - ranging from fun and casual, to ethnic yummies, or black-tie only occasions. Samples are flavorfull and fit in to many diets - however bathroom stops are very limited so go when you can...

A friend dragged me into this food tour and I thought to myself, "$40 bucks for a tour that doesn't even provide much food!" I went into the food tour thinking I was going to be hungry and bored, but turns out I had lots of fun. It was about 40 degrees, but our food tour guide (Carol) was so knowledgeable. She knew everything there was to know about Belltown and also about pikes. She told interesting stories about the city. Most of the restaurants she did mention were on the higher end and out of my cost range. I am a bigger guy and love to devour large amounts of food (ie. meaning I like quantity over quality). She did however recommend other restaurants that were a bit cheaper. I don't think I'll be hitting up all the recommended restaurants in the future, but a couple of them intrigued me.

I thought it was a fantastic tour. The guide was knowledgeable and worked with the group to personalize the tour for us and our interests. We got to see a lot of really great restaurants that are not well known but should be. The food was amazing!
