THE TOUR GUIDE, TONY, WAS KNOWLEDGIBLE IN THE HISTORY OF RICHMOND AND THE EDUCATING OF THE PARTICIPANTS ON USE OF A SEGWAY. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES WE WERE COMFORTABLE WITH ITS USE AND ON OUR WAY THROUGH RICHMOND.

Greatly enjoyed by all

My relatives were visiting from Iowa and I wanted to show them the city but also provide them with a unique experience. This tour provided all that. My guests were thrilled with the experience and now have a great story to share with their friends in the midwest.

Excellent Family Fun!

Our experience was wonderful. We were given plenty of time to aquaint ourselves with the operation of the Segway, and then were taken on a fun, easy tour of downtown Richmond. Our tourguide, the owner of the company, was very knowledgable about the sites and the equipment. I had many technical questions, and he seemed to enjoy answering them. He also seemed to enjoy giving us the tour and enthusiastic about our historic city. The equipment seemed to be in good shape and we had no technical difficulties. Two of the Segways seemed a little low on battery power toward the end of the tour, and he had someone bring fresh ones to us to continue, which goes to show his dedication to customer satisfaction. I have two complaints. The first is parking. The shop is located in an area that is notorious for parking issues, and I hated to have to pay to park but it was the easist solution. While we live just oustide of Richmond, we rarely venture downtown and were not sure what our options were. However, I consider this my own problem and don't hold it against Segway of Richmond. The second complaint was also out of SoR's control; our group included several boys around 12-14 years old who were unruly, inconsiderate, and loud. We had a hard time hearing our guide and stayed well back to avoid getting hit by these boys while they rode around recklessly. They were admonished several times by the employees who accompanied us to no avail, and their parents did nothing to restrain them. Unfortunately, they took away from the overall enjoyment of the experience. I'm not sure there is a solution for this - I realize that no one wants to turn away business, and it's not SoR's responsiblity to control bad behavior. I will and have recommended Segway of Richmond to my friends and family as a fun, affordable family trip. I am looking forward to our next tour! We will definately be back.

What Fun!

We really enjoyed the Segway experience. The instruction on how to operate them took only a few minutes. It was sooooo much fun! The guides were very effective... I actually learned something about my own home town that I didn't know. We plan to take a different local Segway tour and invite our friends to join us. It is well worth the time!

Zippy way to see historic Richmond

I was concerned that the Segway would be difficult to learn, but no one in our group (including my husband who can bike, but forget skates, etc.) had any difficulties (well, we will ignore how one fellow had trouble with his Segway creeping up a curb when he stopped, no big deal). We spent 15 minutes at the Convention Center learning the ropes, and then we were off! We took the 9:30 tour and there were mainly middle-aged participants. The guide was informative. We went all the way to Shokoe Slip via the White House of the Confederacy and the State Capitol grounds. We went along the canal and toured the grounds of an old factory. We viewed the revitalization of the downtown from the sidewalk, a neat perspective. We were given several free periods where we could zip around at our own pace or stretch our feet. We had a great time. I should have stretched my legs and feet more than I did, but I held up fine. This was a 29th wedding anniversary surprise for my husband and was a unique experience. I would recommend it to anyone.

Great Tour

This was a great "date night" activity. Our tour guide, Tony?, was great and very knowledgeable about Richmond history. We definitely recommend this activity. Our tour was at 6PM on Saturday night. Starting and ending the tour from Cary Street was a perfect location for dinner after wards.

Great time

Was in town from Los Angeles. Suprised my wife with the tour on Memorial Day. The combination of local tour and riding the Segways went perfectly! Only took 1 minute for us to master the Segway; then the fun started. My wife had just as much fun as I did and we are looking forward to doing something like this again.

Better than we had imagined!

My husband reluctantly agreed to attend this event with me BUT when we were finished he asked when we were going on another tour! The guide, Sandy, was informative and not too rigid in her presentation. She allowed time for riding "for fun" and provided lots of information about the Richmond sights. She did not overload us with facts and made it fun.... just the right amount of information packaged with FUN. Learning to ride was easy and just took a couple of minutes. We will be taking the Petersburg Battlefield tour next and then the Hollywood Cemetery tour. Thanks for a great day! I also am excited about inviting my clients on the next tour we take.

Your reaction to my accident...
Sat, May 23  2:00 PM johncrowder Male 50-59 Local Group of Friends
On May 23, 2009 a group of 7 friends that I organized took your Historic Tour of Richmond on Segways. 2/3 of the way through the tour another participant (not a member of our group) lost control of his vehicle and hit my stationary Segway. I was toppled to the ground and broke my lower right leg in two places. Our tour guide did a fine job of managing the crisis, arranging for an ambulance, contacting the Shockoe store location (we were only two blocks away) and consulting with my group about how to get the other folks back to the Convention Center while my partner and two closest friends returned separately so that they could meet me at the hospital. HOWEVER, I would have thought that you might have contacted me out of courtesy to see how things turned out and to make some token gesture of concern and good wishes. But more importantly, I am livid about the fact that you made no recompense to the other members of the group whose tour was aborted prematurely. I find this to be a huge customer service and public relations failure. A broken leg in a Segway accident is a prime topic of conversation at work, church and in the community. EVERYONE asks "did you hear back from the tour company?" "did they compensate the other folks who didn't get their proper service?" Our only response continues to be No and No. Countless individuals in the local community continue to hear the story of my accident in person and via Facebook; it is not a positive story in terms of public relations.
