The segway tour was so much fun!!!! We went all around the city! There were about 15 in our group...The guides were so nice, and everyone was given an adequate intro as to how to use the machine! I plan to do it again!!!!

I thought the tour was terrific and riding on the Segways made it a ton of fun. It is a wonderful way to see Richmond from an entirely different perspective. A must do with visiting guests. Thanks.

Segways are a blast to be on. Tracy, our guide, was knowledgeable and very accomodating. We visited several interesting sites and stopped off at the dealership store. It would be nice if there was a little more open space to ride in to avoid traffic. Perhaps consider adding other sites to the tour or have an alternate tour that would encompass seeing the monuments, ie Stonewall Jackson, RE Lee, Arthur Ashe, etc. We look forward to doing this activity again in a future visit to the Richmond area.

RECREATIONAL FACTOR HIGH; EDUCATIONAL FACTOR LOW

The Segway provided an almost effortless means for covering a large area quickly and it was tremendously fun! As for a guided "educational" tour of historic Richmond, there was little value. If I could make one major suggestion it would be this: demonstrate more organization at the front of the tour and at the end. Organization could be demonstrated by: 1) placing a large visually attractive sign at the Vistor's Center that reads, "Segway Tour Meets Here". 2) at the appointed time, having the tour leader introduce himself and then have each group member give a short intro and talk about his or her expectations. 3) Have the tour leader pull out a poster that basically gives a course map and speaks to the objectives of the tour. 4) Before the tour begins, giving a short intro to the Segway equipment. At the convention center, this could be done with a couple of posters plus explanations before ever mounting the platform. Once the participants had mounted the platform a few minutes could be spent on Marshall St. simply going up and down the sidewalk to get the lay of the land. (This would relieve any anxiety; it should also cover safety rules and assembly guidance [when you work as a group and when you're on your own.) 5) During the tour, speaking with power (the tour guide must be loud, distinct, and confident. (If he doesn't know some interesting facts about the point of interest, he should not be leading a tour. If he doesn't have a loud voice, no participant will have confidence in his ability to resolve a problem if one arises.) 6) After the tour, debriefing the participants to ensure that the tour accomplished the objectives established at the beginning. Also, this would be a good time to sell rental time and other tours. Remember, your tour participants will likely be asking themselves; "why am I doing this?", "what am I going to see?", "how is seeing these things on this equipment going to help me?", and "what are the possibilities of using a Segway for other activities? (What if I had a Segway of my own?)" Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share. We had a great time on the Segways!

All about the segway

While riding a segway is for the most part very easy, the machine will freak in some situations. The group had a few people fall and hurt themselves. We could have been better prepared for this. Also, the tour is all about riding a segway. We were taken on quite a long and interesting ride. However, our tour guide could have provided a little more information about the points of interest we saw. All in all it was great fun.
