Great way to go to places you would never know about. Bring cash as many places do not take credit cards. No dressing rooms, so dress appropriately. No time to stop and grab a drink or bite to eat, so be prepared. Our guide was wonderful. I'm sure the tour would be even more interesting to people who are in to fashion and watch project runway, etc. |

I've tried to figure out the Garment District on my own more than once with limited success. On this particular day our group of 5 had appointments in 6 showrooms, which means we had the showroom to ourselves. Our guide, Sarah, has a background in fashion, knows the neighborhood and many of the designers and was a fun, friendly and helpful guide.
Where you go on a given day depends on what showrooms are having sales the day of your tour, so the type of merchandise you'll see can be quite varied. Also, be aware that some showrooms only take cash - this is a point that I feel should have been made in advance.
Well worth the price and a lot of fun if you love clothing and accessories. |

I participated in this tour with a friend during a Girl's Getaway ad we were both thrilled! We now know how to shop the garment district! The guide was great and the stops were all quite interesting and we bought some fantastic clothing and accessories!! |

Interesting comments from designers and clerks at each shopping destination. Sneak peeks of next season's colors. On the downside, one location gave three prices on the same coat, each quoted price was more $ than the previous quote. |

A peak inside the fashion and design world . . .

The tour guide was knowledgeable about the industry and history of the area. We visited a variety of designers in their workshops and we had enough time to try on and buy (at very good prices). However even if you're not interested in buying anything, the tour is worth while just to get a history of the area and to see a good deal of how "fashion" gets to the stores and how it's priced.
I will do this tour again next time I'm in New York City. |
