Knowing the Ins and Outs
Sat, Feb 16, 08   11:00 AM lakitaayers Female 20-29 Local Individual
I really enjoyed this tour It was educational, informative, and almost like a behind the scence pass to a shoppers world. If I had never taken this tour I know I would have never found or even looked for different shops outside if the tourist area. This was a wonderful trip I recommend it to all looking for there own look and taste in merchandise.

Knowledgable New Yorker provides great tour
Sat, Feb 16, 08   11:00 AM AlexRW Female Unspecified Domestic Tourist(s) Unspecified
The tour provided our group with a New York native that was able to explain the history of the area, the neatest unique shops from clothing to candy and even a little celebrity gossip. The 2 hour tour was one of the highlights in our trip. After the tour we knew which boutique was the one started by Project Runway participants or the boutique that carries the latest fashions from Paris. New York can be overwhelming and hard to determine which street has a great boutique squeezed between every day stores. This tour gives you a expansive over view of the area and the ability to go to the best shops so that you have even more time in this amazing city. Highly, highly recommend!

So glad we did the shopping tour. Our teenage daughters really enjoyed it. We covered a variety of stores which provided something for everyone. Family members who live in NY had never heard of it and were glad to know they could recommend it to visitors.

Soho Shopping Tour "Lite"

I, my sister, and my son and his wife took the Soho shopping tour on Saturday, Jan. 26. We didn't know exactly what to expect ,but we had hoped for more historical information, architectural information, and to see more places. I think the tour was priced quite high for the information and number of places we visited. Having said that, we did go to places we may have just passed up or never bothered to see. Our guide was pleasant and patient.

OK But Not Great

I took the Soho/NoLita shopping tour on January 10th. The guide was very nice and helpful. She gave a lot of historical tidbits which I appreciated. Overall, I thought the tour was just OK and if you measure the success by purchases made by the group of seven women it wasn't very much. We only visited a handful of stores to be honest although we were given a list of stores that we could visit on our own which was useful. I did better on my own walking around the area. The cost of the tour wasn't too expensive so I don't think that money was lost.

Would not recommend

I was thinking this would be more fun then it was. With 6 people it was too difficult to look around and make decisions as you knew other people were waiting to leave. The places visited were okay, but probably not any stores that I would go back to on a return visit to New York. Our tour guide was good but I think I could have found a more enjoyable way to spend 2 hours.

Enjoyable

Julie, our guide was both lovely and funky - good choice of person for the activity. I was most impressed by our guide. She was approachable, knowledgeable, interesting, open and receptive to questions - very personable. Pay her well. I would have enjoyed even more historical information about the area. That said, I understand this was a "shopping tour" and Julie did a very good job incorporating information with "shopping". Not too impressed with the shops, but then, I am from an urban area. Wish we had known that shops did not open until 11:00 in SoHo. Oh and MarieBelle - if this is what New Yorkers think is the "ultimate" they haven't, one - read what is in the ingredient list or two, have not been abroad for chocolate. All said, I'd still recommend the experience.

My mom, two sisters and I had an absolutely fantastic time on this tour and bought some great, interesting stuff. We went to stores that were unusual and different. We were able to get a real taste for the area and the shopping and learned about some sales. Sometimes the store mangers came and spoke to us about their product and demonstrated some of the items. We even stopped and got a free chocolate tasting!!! Christina our tour guide knew a lot about the area. She asked what kind of items we were looking for and she knew how to direct us. She was very pleasant to be with. We enjoyed meeting some of the young designers. All in all, it was a great tour and we would do it again.

We just returned from NYC. We had a fantastic time - our tour with Christina was a true highlight. NYC is fantastic...but this tour takes you away from the tourist things and lets you see another really neat part of the city. I took my 16 year old daughter for her birthday and she LOVED it. We went with another friend of mine and her 17 year old daughter (friend of my daughter). Christina asked questions to get the feel and style of our group(just the 4 of us) and tailored the tour to us. It was like shopping with a very knowledgeable, nice friend. Thanks ...we will be back for the sample sales!!
