Good value for insider view on NYC fashion world
Fri, Aug 14  10:00 AM wsesowens Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
I took my 16 year old daughter, who is interested in in a career as a Fashion Designer. I thought the tour helped to give her to a more realistic glimse of what a career in fashion might look like. Even though the showrooms lacked the glits and glammer that she is use to seeing on TV, she really enjoyed it. We both found a few bargins. However, I don't feel that the savings offset the cost of the tour. Samples ranged from $20 (scarfs) to $300 (high end winter coats). Although our guide was adequate, I would have preferred a guide that had more knowledge of the fashion industry. Overall though, I thought that the tour was worth while and suited our needs.

Soho Shopping Tour "Lite"

I, my sister, and my son and his wife took the Soho shopping tour on Saturday, Jan. 26. We didn't know exactly what to expect ,but we had hoped for more historical information, architectural information, and to see more places. I think the tour was priced quite high for the information and number of places we visited. Having said that, we did go to places we may have just passed up or never bothered to see. Our guide was pleasant and patient.

I was travelling from Toronto with my sister & two nieces, ages 16 7 20.I have been to NYC many times, it was their first .Normally I would not take a tour but it sounded novel. Our guide Ennis was a lovely person & really tried her best but she didn't have the personality or the skills. Our group was larger than the 12 that the ad mentioned as a limit. this could have been handled better by someone more savy .Ennis needed to be better organized with time limits in stores & with direction. So much time was wasted waiting around ,very tedious,.. ennis had no control.Yes this wasn't supposed to be a boot camp, it just wasn;t any fun. I think the guide should take cues from the group & have some high energy or personality.Sadly this was not Ennis.

GREAT fun (with some suggestions)

This is a fabulous and very fun insider shopping tour of the garment district. We bought great clothing and got good information about the manufacturing of designer clothes and accessories. We were fortunate to get Marla, the owner of the company, as our guide, and she was fun, lively, informative and brutally honest when we tried on clothes (always good to have!!). Two suggestions: a few of our group members had large breasts, and were disappointed that many of the clothes didn't fit or look great on them. The largest size available seemed to be 8. I would suggest letting tour members know this in advance. The second suggestion would be to include more accessory show rooms -- maybe shoes and bags show rooms? This would also help the purchasing power of women who don't wear size 0 - 8 clothing. Overall, however, this is a tour that is well worth it and definitely recommended!!!

PROVIDE MORE STORE INFORMATION

I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE THE STORES WE WERE SCHEDULED TO VISIT WERE A BIT OVER MY BUDGET. I HAD MY 2 DAUGHTERS WITH ME, AGES 20 & 18. I WISH THERE WAS A WAY I COULD BE REFUNDED. THE AD WAS VERY MISLEADING AND DID NOT DESCRIBE THE TYPE OF STORES WE WERE GOING TO VISIT.

Well Worth the Time and Cost

My friend and I really enjoyed the Garment District Tour. I think this tour is very good for learning about the history of the area and we were able to go into designer workshops not available to the public. We both were able to find a perfect trench coat at less than 1/2 price. Wendy R. Calgary, Canada

I had a good time on this tour. Our guide was very friendly and took us to about seven or eight different showrooms. I'm a petite woman (size 0-2), so I was able to find a lot of samples that fit me. I even bought a Vera Wang evening gown for only $75.

A tour well worth going on!

My sister and myself tried to do the garment district and samples sales on our own a year ago and were very disappointed. We had Marla take us to places we would have never known about before and she also gave us information on the history of the district as we went from one designers showroom to another. We bought and found more than we had bargained for! Even if you only going to look this tour is worth going on, I will be going on it on my next trip to New York for sure.

Big Store Tour

We enjoyed our Big Store Shopping Tour. It was a great opportunity to see all of the "must see" stores in NYC. Each store was unique and had varied price points. The tour allowed our group to generously sample NYC shopping of which we were able to decide where we wished to return afterwards. Our guide was exceptional, she provided facts and history on each place we visited and also gave us other suggestions on the places we should see when in NYC. Best of all, our tour guide was patient and very friendly, making our day in the rain a sunny experience! Thanks for everything.

Definitely worth your time and money!

I had gone down to the NoLita area by myself this past summer, but I went back this time with my teen-age daughter, thinking she would enjoy it too. I learned so much more by going with Rebecca (the founder of Shop Gotham) -- she knew all the "inside" gossip about not only stores, but restaurants. GO!!

Lost in Nolita

The tour guide-a young Russian lady-was very knowledgeble about the area and gave good tips on history. I realize that we were on a tight schedule, but she kept her eye on the time on her phone to the point that we were almost afraid even look at anything. I had the feeling that she had something else she needed to do. Our last stop was Rice to Riches where we were told to go in and ask for samples. My friend and I asked for two and then looked around for our guide. She was nowhere to be seen. We ran out to the street in front of the store-again she was not there. She seemed to have disappeared, leaving us with no directions or even a good-by. This was very disconcerting and rude. We will not book again.

Interesting look inside fashion houses

I enjoyed seeing the designer showrooms and the fashions. The 3 hour tour passed by very quickly, leaving some of us wanting to see more. After the tour I wandered the Fashion District for another 2 hours. I never saw anything close to the access our tour provided. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable. I will definitely consider your other tours!

Great tour to get a feel for the area!

My Mom and I went on the tour during our weekend trip and had a great time. We hadn't been to SoHo, so the tour gave us a chance to see what kind of unique stores are in the area. You don't have a lot of time to acutally shop so if you really want to spend some time in the stores you should plan on staying around once the tour finishes. They'll give you a map and a discount card that you can use for the rest of the day. I would definitely recommend this tour for groups of friends or Mother/Daughter combos.
