We found a very professional crew, a nice and clean boat, spartan but beatifully equipped for this kind of trips. And fast and powerful. We met humpbacks some 10 miles south of Santa Cruz, and that made our day of course. Take some time for a breakfast at Stagnaro's diners in front of the dock, we liked it a lot. Overall was a very well time and money spent. Francesco - Milan (Italy)

Great Fun!

We selected (without knowing of course) a beautiful day in which to take this trip. The temperatures were incredible. There was ample seating around the outside of the boat to allow us to enjoy the incredible ocean views while on the hunt for the hump back whale. Or any whale for that matter. It took about an hour before we were reached Monterey Bay where we found a number of pods. It was incredible! Off in the distance we watched two whales jumping out of the water and then slapping their tales. One whale even came right under the front of the boat! Besides watching the whales, I enjoyed the different types of jellyfish that can be seen floating along the oceans surface. Some I had never seen before or even knew existed. The ride back is a bit bumpy. No sitting on the front of the boat this part of the trip. You could, but you would be wet! The galley has great seats for this last part of the journey. Out of the wind! Our trip lasted 3 1/2 hours. We made sure to take sea sick pills 1 hr prior to our trip. Very helpful. It's really only the trip back that causes issues. They are slow to take you out, but fast to bring you back, and that causes a lot of swaying. The crew was very informative and friendly...Even though I am sure they see this stuff all the time, they still act as though they are having just as much fun seeing the whales, sea lions and the dolphins as you are. This trip was reasonably priced, and I would recommend it to everyone! Be sure to take your camera, and a set of binnoculars! Oh, and remember to layer your clothing. Kimberly L. Grass Valley, CA

We enjoyed every aspect of this fantastic trip. Our children were so thrilled to see the many whales and we especially enjoyed the breaching. The crew was great and we had a fantastic time. THANK YOU!

Humpback whales

We went whale watching 17th May. The boat was really nice with reasonably priced drinks and food and it wasn't overcrowded. The crew members were friendly and gave very informative information about the wildlife, though it was occasionally difficult to understand what they were saying as it was a bit muffled at times. We saw otters, sea-lions and humpback whales. The whales had migrated further towards Monterey so we had to travel further, but i appreciated them extending the trip slightly to make sure we saw some whales as if not it would have been disappointing. We saw several humpback whales coming to the surface and lifting their tails out of the water. Unfortunately none of them breached, but one did suddenly surface right next to the boat. It was enjoyed by all.

Great trip! Saw lots of humpback whales , got GREAT pictures and the crew was very nice and took time to talk to us all and answered all of our questions. The boat was very clean and snacks were available on board for a very reasonable price. We have been on several whale watching trips and this charter was by far one of the best. Highly recommend Stagnaro for whale watching!!!!

A must as long as you can see the whales

We had a party of 9 who took my parents on this whale watching excursion to celebrate Mother's day. Ages ranged from 11-70. First off I thought the boat would be bigger-I already had concerns about seasickness and seeing the smaller boat was a little worrisome. As soon as we got on the boat there was the smell of bacon cooking-which again having seasickness issues is not a good thing..We started off on our journey enjoying the fresh air and the sightseeing. Now mind you there really is not anywhere comfortable to sit..my mother has alot of issue with back problems etc. and really could not get comfortable..going inside the cabin was not the answer as it is warmer, stuffier and for whatever reason when you leave that area you feel nauseated..I will add that the people working the boat was very good about giving us information about what we were seeing. After checking out the sealions and seals it was time to head to sea to see if we could find any whales. As we traveled further out to sea there were 3 people in our party who were experiencing not feeling well..I happen to bring some dramamine so gave them that in hopes it would help..After traveling awhile and talking myself out of getting seasick (yes I felt nauseated but told myself mind over matter) we heard there was a spotting of a whale a mile and a half away..the excited arose and I got my camera ready...I then sat back down as it took awhile to get to where we were headed...next thing you know the excitement on the boat was loud as we saw our first whale...yeah!! Now I was on starboard side of the boat-there were alot of the people at the bow of the boat so no way of getting up there-there was a bench where I was so me and my mom sat there with something to lean against (to help my mom) and we were able to put our feet up. The next thing you know is we have whales right in front of us...and boy were we excited..this continued for awhile, we definetly got our share of whales. Now the reason I bring up all this which might seem negative to you is to say that no matter what you encounter aboard as long as you are able to see the WHALES it makes it all worth it. Out of the 9 of us in my party 7 of us got nauseated 1 fed the fish and 2 were never bothered...even with that seeing the WHALES made the trip a positive. Had we not seen any whales I can assure you that the whole trip would have been a big negative..so even though one cannot be guaranteed the sightings of whales when you do see them it makes whatever anyone went through worth the whole trip. For anyone taking this trip plan ahead for seasickness-bring a blanket for either warmth or cushioning and if possible sit up in the bow area as you will see everything..as most of all ENJOY what you are about to see...this turned out to be a great day to share with my family and we are still talking about the whales and how much fun we had...

Great Cruise
Sun, May 11, 08   10:00 AM cgmeyer Male 20-29 Local Couple on a Date
I highly recommend this whale watching cruise. The ship has a clean head and full service galley with comfortable indoor seating. The craft is of much higher quality than those used on similar cruises in the area. The crew was also very friendly and helpful. On our trip we saw at least 7 humpback whales with in 100 yards of the craft, 2 otters, and countless sea lions. I would recommend bringing sea sickness medication just incase the waves kick up.

Great Experience!

My sisters and I took my parents out for Mother's Day to this activity. I actually did not expect too much, being it was not peak season for whale watching and such. I was very impressed with the crew/staff that worked that day. They showed enthusiasm about the whales we did see, they were patient and willing to wait to see if more whales would surface and went out of their way to try to view more. I felt the staff was excellent and involved.... and that set the tone for the outing. We fortunately did see plenty of Humpback Whales, Sea Lions, Otters and even a bunch of jelly fish if you looked down into the water. I would highly recommend this activity! Of course, there is always room for improvement and I would like to add that the greeting at the gate is a bit lengthy. Much of the information said at the gate before boarding is repeated once on the boat. There were also a lot of people on the boat that day (???Mother's Day???) and although you could still get a view... you did feel like you were stepping over and around a lot of people moving about. I was concerned when I saw the door to the boat where you board fly open without anyone even near it on two occasion, even though it had a lock (I do hope that got fixed). With that being said... I would do it again and with this company. Thank you for a great day.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed the experience. I thought the staff was wonderful. The crew were very interactive, volunteering assistance always. I found the captain especially, and the crew, extremely knowledgeble about explaining everything we saw ( or hoped to see). We, unfortunately, did not see a breach or even that much activity but I think that was a factor of the time of year. I highly reccomend this vessel and it's crew.

Great time in beautiful Monterey Bay !

We had a great outing the day before Mother's Day. We met on the wharf at 9:30am and saw the 40 or so people that would be joining us on the crusie. At first, the boat looked a little small for all those people, but as we boarded, we saw that there was plenty of room for all of us. The Captain & Crew could not have been nicer; they took the time to meet each of us and give us all a lot of great information about the bay and the animals & fish that inhabit it. I learned so much about Santa Cruz and the surrounding waters, and I've lived here for over 20 years ! Thanks guys for the lovely day aboard your boat ! >>> Rob Rusin
