fascinating look into ethnicity that still endures

As "native" NYers, we had heard about Arthur Avenue, but never visited it. It was one of the most fascinating tours my family & I have ever taken. Living in NY & having Italian neighbors has well acquainted us with Italian food, but this food was so fresh & delicious! Suzie knew just the right places to take us to. The highlight was seeing mozzarella cheese freshly made. We stayed on Arthur Avenue after the tour returned to Grand Central Terminal & did some shopping of our own.

The best tour of our New York City trip!

My husband and I took many tours during our week in New York and agree that the Arthur Avenue Walkabout was the best. Susan is very informative and the food samples were outstanding. The neighborhood is amazing and we loved every minute of our tour. I am certainly glad this tour was scheduled early in the week before I fell and sprained my ankle!

Excellent, enjoyable activity

Susan was informative and selected wonderful tastings that left us totally satiated. We enjoyed watching the cheesemaking demo and the tasting of the fresh mozarella, the garlic sundried tomatoes, the pizza and shopping in the "Little Italy". The history of the neighborhood was so interesting. I'm not sure we would have ventured out to "The Bronx" if not for the tour. Thank you Susan!

Uncovered a new part of NYC for me!

Had a delightful afternoon with a great group of people on and about Arthur Avenue, eating our way from one great establishment to another. I will definitely take my husband back as well as a large shopping sac to take home more goodies next time. Thought Arthur Avenue was as diverse, perhaps even nicer, as Little Italy in Manhattan.

A taste of the real Little Italy!

Our experience was great. A good time was had by all, including our 13 year old. We saw people in their element, doing what they do every day. It was a very interesting glimpse of a different way of living. We sampled a lot of wonderful food!

My friend and I totally enjoyed Susan and her tour. She is informative, down to earth, friendly, lots of energy. I plan on doing the rest of her tours as I return to the city over the next couple of years. I want to bring my daughter, also. The food was yummy and the vendors very pleasant. I would highly recommend this tour.

Genuine Italians in New York City!

In the Bronx, not on the Lower East Side of Manhattan! This is a delightful, easily paced, intimate walk through the Arthur Street area--the Little Italy of the Bronx--a genuine neighborhood, not a tourist destination like Mulberry Street in Manhattan. You won't find "The Sopranos" here, just the everyday lifestyle of everyday people who happen to be Italian. One of my favorite stops was the "candy store" where the "village elders" gather around to solve the problems of the world--and where one of the matriarchs of the neighborhood will explain to you how she created egg creams--no eggs, no cream. And if you don't believe her, get ready to beat a hasty retreat--and no egg cream for you!

Interesting, but not at the top of my list to do

The tour was just okay: lots of walking, not so much stopping, ran past its expected time limit (which was okay for me, but several had to leave before the end because of other plans.) The leader was well-versed, but allowed group to ramble and take their time so the pace was too slow for me. Also the area wasn't all that exciting. I probably best enjoyed the international origin of the group, with many from abroad. Good food, though!

This was my second tour with Susan. I had to bring a friend to experience the "Real Little Italy" of New York. The tour was so informative and interesting. The tastings were wonderful and generous. Thank you Susan!

We had a great time

The walk was at a great pace and was broken up nicely with stories and food stops. Our group varied in age and everyone had a great time. Thanks for the experience.
