Good Tour/Not enough Seen
Wed, Oct 17, 07   10:30 AM CynthiaHoff Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
We enjoyed the tour however feel that it would have been better if there had been a time limit set for each store visited. Too much time was spent at 1st location and we didn't get to as many others as we would have liked. This was a great way however to see where some of the little knit/yarn shops are located. Maybe ending the tour at the shop we started with would have worked better. It was a great store and it was hard to leave.

A Great Time Was Had by All

Susan of Susan Sez provided us with a wonderful, informative experience. After giving us some of the history of the Bronx Belmont section, Susan graciously brought us to many local specialty shops including the Arthur Ave. Market where we tasted everything from homemade sausages, fresh cheeses , breads, pastries and pizza to a lovely slice of Italian cheesecake at the walkabout's end. What a treat !! During all of this we heard about the local trivia and visited some very noteworthy historical spots. In addition, we found out about several nice restaurants. I highly recommend this tour to all.

I went with a group for a project we're doing on the island. The tour was quite informative and helped us greatly. Susan is a well-informed and charismatic tour guide. I highly recommend the tour.

too slow

After having done a fantstic tour recently with Food Tours of New York, the tour leader being Todd who was outstanding, I pursuaded my son to do this tour with me, he is 29 years ol d and a buiseness professional. Well upon meeting the group, we were the only 2 amongst a lovely group of ladiies who were approximately by my guess all 80 years old, needless to say this tour became very long and so slow, believe it or not we were in little Itlay and of the few samples of food we had, not one was pasta. We would of enjoyed this much more doing the area alone. I felt as if the tour leader who knew this tour was coming should have thought about how slow this was going to be for others. We left before the end. I feel very sorry not to give this a good rating as Susan was so nice, but I could not even begin to compare it to my previous tour. I am not sure how this could have been prevented and a faster and more productive day gained

Great fun

I just moved to the Bronx and wanted get to know my new borough - specifically where the good places to eat and shop are. I had a marvelous time walking around and I felt like I met the food maven of the Bronx (very cool). Now I know where to go for the most decadent mozzarella, freshest egg-noodles, and access to essential pantry staples. I also learned a lot about the area's history as well as it's current neighborhood. Susan didn't make me feel (or look) like a tourist - which i really appreciated. I had a great time and would definately recommend it to others.

A nice foray into the neighborhood

I loved going to Arthur Avenue. The food we sampled was delicious and I bought lots of yummy stuff to bring home. I would highly recommend visiting the neighborhood. The tour itself was average. Other than pointing out the good places to shop and eat, I did not find the information particularly interesting or useful. So, if you want a guided way to see the Ave, take the tour, otherwise, I say go explore around on your own.

Great way to spend an afternoon

The tour was thoroughly enjoyable. Susan was knowledgable of the area and presented interesting facts of the neighborhood and its residents. We made plenty of stops along the way to sample delicious treats from a variety of shops and specialty markets. Mike's Deli was the best with the cheesmaking demonstration and the samples of several of their cheeses. We've been to Little Italy in Manhattan. You don't know what you are missing until you've been to the "Real Little Italy" in the Bronx. Susan's tour is a great way to experience it!

This was a great tour - gave us a bit of the cultural/historic background of the neighborhood as well as guiding us through a wonderful array of culinary treats. It was such a fun afternoon and a great way to explore a new area of the city.

The walk was at a great pace and was broken up nicely with stories and food stops. Our group varied in age and everyone had a great time. Thanks for the experience.

fascinating look into ethnicity that still endures

As "native" NYers, we had heard about Arthur Avenue, but never visited it. It was one of the most fascinating tours my family & I have ever taken. Living in NY & having Italian neighbors has well acquainted us with Italian food, but this food was so fresh & delicious! Suzie knew just the right places to take us to. The highlight was seeing mozzarella cheese freshly made. We stayed on Arthur Avenue after the tour returned to Grand Central Terminal & did some shopping of our own.

Explore the real Little Italy!

I had a wonderful day exploring Arthur Ave, eating my way through all its glorious food - you will definitely not be hungry after this tour. Handmade cheeses and salami, olives, italian bakery delights and maybe the best pizza in not only the Bronx but NY! The tour guide is a friendly local and very knowledgeable of the of area, making for an enjoyable and informative day. She provides you with documentation to navigate the area post tour with many recommendations on where to shop and eat, and just a short walk up the road is the Botanical Gardens and the Bronx Zoo. Take this tour, you will not be disappointed.!

We expected more interesting info on the Bronx
Mon, Sep 11, 06   11:45 AM dianeb Male 30-39 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We had to pay extra (9,50 p.p.) for the train from Grand Central to the Bronx, which was an extra cost we did not expect. Our Metrocard was valid for subway and buses, but not for the train. We walked around Arthur Avenue and surroundings, but apart from the food which was ok, we did not learn a lot about the Bronx. The info given was not very interesting. Consider it to be a food tasting tour, not a Bronx tour.

Good job

Started late but once we got going we went to some diverse and interesting places. no bargains but lots of different styles of yarn and shops i certainly wouldn't have found on my own. The fellow adventurers were pleasant and knew their yarns and knitting, and all had different perspectives about knitting. the distances were easily walked and the subway ride was uneventful. The shops were chosen with an eye toward maximizing the number of places possible with the least amount of travel. I thought that it was well thought out and the leader clearly did research about new shops regularly.

Just the three of us

My sister and I were the only ones on the tour which we didn't know till we met at the designated location. It might have been nice if we had been informed or even given a choice to reschedule with a larger group. This situation had it's pros and cons. Pros: it was just us; cons: it might have been more fun with a larger group. All in all it was enjoyable but there weren't nearly as many tastings as on previous tours. When we got back to the Metro North station to return to Grand Central, the ticket we were provided with was for another line and we each had to pay $13.00 to purchase another ticket on the train. I don't know how the tour guide missed this; we took the same train back that we took to get there.

Christmas gift for my wife
Fri, May 22  10:30 AM marsha46 Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The knitting tour was a gift from me to my wife this past Christmas. I offered to go along to carry the packages! - It turned out to be a highlight of our trip to the City. Susan, our guide, took us from shop to shop and provided us with all kinds of information regarding the neighborhoods, history, etc. in between. We were able to see parts of the city that we would never have found on our own, not to mention the shops that are hidden away on the upper floors of the buildings. It was really a fantastic experience. We will arrange for another tour with Susan when we return to NYC.
