| Despite the pouring rain the day of the trip, our guide and our fellow travelers were treated to a really enjoyable afternoon of "schmoozing with the locals". We've had the Arthur Avenue Cookbook for several years and on the tour we felt as though we were walking through a living version of the cookbook. We visited all the stores and met or saw most of the individuals and characters listed in the cookbook. We would highly recommend this tour expecially, since Susan seems to possess a joyous and encyclopedic knowledge of the neighborhood and the history of the bronx in general. She was greeted enthusiastically by most of the local businesses we visited and seemed to sweep us up in the lifestyle and activities as we toured the neighborhood, if only for that short time. | ||||||

| Susan was very personable and knowledgeable. She was very familiar with the tour area and able to provide information and stories relating to the neighborhood that extended beyond the food. The food samples were ample and delicious. Would highly recommend the tour to anyone considering it and will definitely suggest it to anyone making the trip to NYC. | ||||||

| I just moved to the Bronx and wanted get to know my new borough - specifically where the good places to eat and shop are. I had a marvelous time walking around and I felt like I met the food maven of the Bronx (very cool). Now I know where to go for the most decadent mozzarella, freshest egg-noodles, and access to essential pantry staples. I also learned a lot about the area's history as well as it's current neighborhood. Susan didn't make me feel (or look) like a tourist - which i really appreciated. I had a great time and would definately recommend it to others. | ||||||

| i was interested in finding new knitting shops and that's just what we did. The group was all strangers to me but all very friendly and easy going. The tour leader was very personable and helpful and I would certainly think about going again on another tour with her. i am interested in returning on my own to some of the pllaces she took us. | ||||||

| Susan was very friendly and it was nice to be taken round by a local. The tasters were good - especially the cheese and I would definitely recommend the walk as a pleasant way to spend a morning. | ||||||

| As "native" NYers, we had heard about Arthur Avenue, but never visited it. It was one of the most fascinating tours my family & I have ever taken. Living in NY & having Italian neighbors has well acquainted us with Italian food, but this food was so fresh & delicious! Suzie knew just the right places to take us to. The highlight was seeing mozzarella cheese freshly made. We stayed on Arthur Avenue after the tour returned to Grand Central Terminal & did some shopping of our own. | ||||||

We expected more interesting info on the Bronx

| We had to pay extra (9,50 p.p.) for the train from Grand Central to the Bronx, which was an extra cost we did not expect. Our Metrocard was valid for subway and buses, but not for the train. We walked around Arthur Avenue and surroundings, but apart from the food which was ok, we did not learn a lot about the Bronx. The info given was not very interesting. Consider it to be a food tasting tour, not a Bronx tour. | ||||||

Genuine Italians in New York City!

| In the Bronx, not on the Lower East Side of Manhattan! This is a delightful, easily paced, intimate walk through the Arthur Street area--the Little Italy of the Bronx--a genuine neighborhood, not a tourist destination like Mulberry Street in Manhattan. You won't find "The Sopranos" here, just the everyday lifestyle of everyday people who happen to be Italian. One of my favorite stops was the "candy store" where the "village elders" gather around to solve the problems of the world--and where one of the matriarchs of the neighborhood will explain to you how she created egg creams--no eggs, no cream. And if you don't believe her, get ready to beat a hasty retreat--and no egg cream for you! | ||||||

Good Tour/Not enough Seen

| We enjoyed the tour however feel that it would have been better if there had been a time limit set for each store visited. Too much time was spent at 1st location and we didn't get to as many others as we would have liked. This was a great way however to see where some of the little knit/yarn shops are located. Maybe ending the tour at the shop we started with would have worked better. It was a great store and it was hard to leave. | ||||||

| Started late but once we got going we went to some diverse and interesting places. no bargains but lots of different styles of yarn and shops i certainly wouldn't have found on my own. The fellow adventurers were pleasant and knew their yarns and knitting, and all had different perspectives about knitting. the distances were easily walked and the subway ride was uneventful. The shops were chosen with an eye toward maximizing the number of places possible with the least amount of travel. I thought that it was well thought out and the leader clearly did research about new shops regularly. | ||||||

| The tour was thoroughly enjoyable. Susan was knowledgable of the area and presented interesting facts of the neighborhood and its residents. We made plenty of stops along the way to sample delicious treats from a variety of shops and specialty markets. Mike's Deli was the best with the cheesmaking demonstration and the samples of several of their cheeses. We've been to Little Italy in Manhattan. You don't know what you are missing until you've been to the "Real Little Italy" in the Bronx. Susan's tour is a great way to experience it! | ||||||
