| The emphasis was on Jazz and architecture and we saw neighborhoods I had only heard about before. It was eye opening. I only wish it could have included some music-either Jazz or gospel. | ||||||

Walking + subway = the best way of sightseeing

| We have taken many tours in different countries when we have been transported in buses or vans. These tours have included a number of stops. The Brooklyn tour is the best tour we have taken during many years of travelling. Walking in interesting areas of Brooklyn together with a very well informed guide and using the subway between these areas is a much better way of sightseeing than to go around in a bus. | ||||||

Interesting Tour

| This tour was very interesting, conducted by a local resident. We walked thru two areas of downtown Brooklyn (I think they were called Fort Green and Clinton Hill). This included a beautiful old Baptist Church and the School of Design. Then we went by bus to another section (can't remember what it was called) for an Indonesian lunch. Then by subway to Coney Island and Brighton Beach. Unfortunately, we both overestimated our ability to do a six hour tour with a lot of walking and wanted to end it early as we were the only two "customers." Paul was gracious enough to take us back to Manhattan and show us Katz's deli before we departed. And, since then, he has graciously located a grave of a family member in a Brooklyn cemetary that we didn't have time to visit. The only thing that was a negative is that the materials we received from Zerve showed two conflicting meeting places. Fortunately they were across the street from each other. Because there were no other customers, and Paul was a little late, as well as not wearing any kind of ID badge, we could have easily missed him. Great tour and we would recommend it to others interested in lots of walking and a lot of detail that you can't get on a bus tour. | ||||||

| This was a great tour, full of interesting details and quirky insights provided by our tour guide, Paul. We were accompanied by a few visiting jazz musicians who added their own details along the way. Not surprising, as Paul is a great friend to many jazz players around the world. And BBC Radio was along with us as well, gathering audio for one of their jazz shows. Despite the brisk weather we kept warm together and had a great time visiting the pretty streets of Greenwich Village, the hidden cafés and some of the chatty locals. | ||||||

| The Jazz Walk through Harlem is a wonderful way to spend time. Jazz lovers will especially enjoy the history of the jazz entertainers that made Harlem and American music so important. Mr. Blair provides, not only jazz history, but the local history of this area of New York City. He is very knowledgable and pleasant to be with. We could not have had a better guide. I would highly recommend this tour for locals and tourists alike. | ||||||

INTERESTING TOUR OF HARLEM'S JAZZ PAST

| This walk is the ideal opportunity to see buildings and areas that a tourist is unlikely to see without an experienced guide. Apart from hearing about the renowned jazz musicians who lived and played in the area it was great to see the beautiful houses and lovely tree lined streets of Harlem. It probably would have been good to have five minutes more at Big Apple Jazz to finish a coffee and browse at the items they had for sale! | ||||||

| This was a wonderful tour. My friend and I saw it advertised three years ago, however, this year was the first time our annual weekend in NYC and the tour conincided. First and foremost I must say that we appreciate the fact that only the two of us and you did not cancel. It was a full 2 1/2 hours and our Tour Guide never made us feel rushed even though we realized there were onnly tow of us He provided us with so many details of the Jazz (our era) and when we had questions he went out of the way to show and answer all our questions. It was above ad beyond our expectations and we plan on taking two of Paul's other tours in the future. | ||||||

| Our guide made the tour for us. He loves Brooklyn and loves what he does. He is a real people person. We were shown places that I would imagine most people would overlook. My friend and I enjoyed every moment of this tour. We appreciated the ethnicity of Brooklyn. Take this tour. You will love it! | ||||||

| The mystique that is Greenwich Village is accorded a highly informative insider's view as Paul Blair takes his fellow travelers on a two hour jaunt through some of Manhattan's more inviting little neighborhood streets. The past is unveiled through his captivating, and sometimes even animated, narrations, not just of the famous jazz haunts but of Village life in general. Poets, artists, musicians; alas the Eulipions of Rahsaan Roland Kirk fame, all come alive. Indeed, Mr. Blair's own eye is that of an artist, pointing out the architectural details ... the Greek Revival styles, the gargoyles adorning a particular building ... all fodder for my camera's lens. More importantly the tour had its social benefits. Members of the group were all introduced to one another and opportunities to mingle and share personal information or experiences were afforded and encouraged. Indeed you feel like you're making new friends, even if only for that day. This is all a tribute to Paul Blair's relaxed, unpretentious style, witty sense of humor and gracious warmth. It is difficult not to enjoy oneself on this tour. We were charmed and delighted. The pace is easy going. The experience is one that you'll want to do again and again. | ||||||

| If you want to learn a lot about Harlem's place in jazz history take this tour. Paul Blair knows his stuff and enjoys sharing it with you. He evokes the rich past of the place with plenty of verve and countless anecdotes. If you can remember 10 percent of what he tells you on the tour you'll be fit to lead a tour on your own. As the editor of "Hot House Jazz", a magazine on the New York jazz scene, and a long-time jazz afficionado, Paul is a missionary for the music. Harlem is hallowed ground for him. Let him lead you through it and you won't be disappointed. Practical matters: this tour covers a lot of ground so bring the most confortable shoes you own and if it's at all sunny hats, sunglasses, and sunblock will all come in handy. | ||||||

JAZZ WALKS with PAUL BLAIR, music to our ears
The Greenwich Village Jazz Walk

| Our 2nd Jazz Walk w/ Paul Blair (our 1st was through Harlem) this Greenwich Village Jazz Walk last weekend was also a Great Experience! What a pleasure to devote ones full attention to the remarkable stories that inhabit these historic districts. Paul has really done a magnificent job in bringing the human element into his tours and because we love Jazz , his focus on the music, musicians and venues (both past & present) brings the sites to life . His tours come w/ a CD of well selected music that represents the experience and Paul combines his skills as a story teller and humorist w/ his erudition as a historian in perfect harmony. This walk seems to attract fun, sympathetic, people because we shared the experience with a couple (old friends from San Francisco) we hadn't seen in over 2 years , a total surprise!! We plan to take these Jazz Walks w/ Paul again. | ||||||
