Fun afternoon

We had a delightful afternoon on this sailboat cruise. The captain and crew were friendly, helpful, and skilled sailors. Beautiful scenery!

I had a mild concern about how engaging this would be for the kids but they had a blast. The boat was beautiful, the crew of two was engaging and professional and the weather was lovely. Only downside (small one) was that I bought the tickets online but didn't have access to a printer and writing down all of the required numbers was a small hassle. Regardless, I am now aware of that and when we go back for the next sail (absolutely!) I'll know better.

My husband and I live in Placerville, CA. My cousin from Florida was out to visit us for a few days, so we decided to drive up to Lake Tahoe. Our daughter from the Bay Area also came up to join us and we all had a great time. It was the highlight of her visit and a lasting memory. Thank you!

A Lovely Afternoon

The captain and his first mate were very personable. We cruised on a BEAUTIFUL day, and enjoyed taking in the sites and relaxing with the beer and wine provided on board. The cruise went by so fast - meaning it was THAT enjoyable - that it hardly seemed like 2 1/2 hours on board. It was 77 degrees outside, and we thought we may need jackets and pants, but learned our lesson quickly - that with the sun baking down on you, shorts, sunglasses and a visor or hat would have been just perfect. I can't "Enthusiastically Recommend" this cruise for only two small and perhaps petty reasons: 1) The woman answering the phone, the captain's wife, was simply unfriendly when we called for directions. We were struggling to make it to the cruise on time after having made a wrong turn in Tahoe City. We were panicked and sick that after the long drive to Tahoe that day, we may actually miss our sole reason for being there. When we called to verify that we were headed in the right direction (which we were not) the woman on the phone’s attitude was NOT one of trying to help us make it for our big day (four Moms trying to spend a day away from the toddlers and kids is not easy to coordinate!), it was more of a ticked that we hadn't given ourselves more time to make wrong turns and "you're just another customer who's late" attitude. She seemed so irritated at our near-tardiness, that she didn’t ensure we were headed towards them – if we would not have called back again on a hunch that we were STILL going the wrong way, we would have continued headed AWAY from the marina. We made it on time, but only after doing the mad dash at top sprint once we arrived! We don’t blame her for us being late. We simply could have used a little sympathy and a sense of urgency and caring that we make it to the marina on time for what was to us a very big day . 2) Seating on board is wherever you can find a spot to plop (no seats/chairs). Our group had never sailed before, we were unprepared for this and some of us with back problems were aching by the end of the cruise. I don’t know what we could have changed by knowing this in advance, but if you are expecting a seat with a back, think again. All in all, we had a lovely 40th birthday celebration for my friend, and despite the gruff demeanor of the woman on the phone, would take this cruise again.

trick advertising but great way to see the lake

I would have enthusiastically recommended the cruise but I walked into to office with a coupon for $5.00 off each person on the cruise (prior reservations only, which I had) and the wife of the captain grabed it out of my hands and threw it in the trash and said I could not use it because I had already paid through ZERVE. Since we are a family of 5 people I felt she just threw my $25.00 savings in the trash. Not in a nice way either! Tricky advertising. The captain and his mate were very nice and the boat very clean. The weather on the lake was stupendous. We had a wonderful time. Great way to relax and enjoy Lake Tahoe

Everyone in our group really enjoyed our afternoon of sailing. The captain and his first mate were great. The lake is beautiful and this was a really fun way to get out on the water and see some of it.

Fabulous time--we had great luck

A family of four, with two college-aged children, we wanted an activity that would allow us to see the Lake, appreciate sailing, and enjoy the weather. The crew were outstanding, as one would expect from their years of experience: competent, informative, welcoming (let the younger kids try their hand at the helm, etc.). We chose the noon-hour cruise (as opposed to the mid-afternoon or evening outings) only on account of our schedule. We motored down the west side of the Lake, then hoisted sail for a point to the southeast, before coming about to return to Tahoe City. The weather was perfect, the scenery sparkling, drinks and snacks plentiful. First mate Greg was attuned to our every need or desire. In fact, the crew's buoyant mood was partly attributable to their own surprise at our good fortune. As we moored again, Greg mentioned that on the noon cruise, there is often very little wind. Frequently the boat has to "motor" for the entire two hours! The pictures and descriptions on the website naturally portray the boat as heeling over in a stiff breeze. Obviously, even those with a little experience, like myself, understand that the weather is not always ideal. But had I known that noon in particular is often a calm period--and this was nowhere hinted in the literature--I would certainly have chosen later in the day. As it was, had we never been able to put up the sail, I would have felt extremely disappointed, not to say defrauded (at $50 a person). Our family had a wonderful time. I can only recommend this, however, with the qualification that you inquire fully about likely conditions. Otherwise, you might come away with a poor taste of sailing, which would be a shame.

Fantasic First time sailing

The Boat is great, the secenery is amazing and Captain Jim and FIrst Mate Greg did a great job explaining what was going on and providing details of where we were on the lake. We did the noon cruise and lucked out with the winds, thus having a great sail. There were only 14 people on our sail (8 of which were our group). I beleive capacitly is 25 people, which would have been really crowded and uncomfortable. My suggestion - if you can be nimble call the day of and see how full the boat is before you commit.
