Description

Art created using ceramic techniques can be timeless and thought-provoking, and campers will walk away from this two-week experience with a new understanding of technique and form. The nature of the material itself leads the artist to discoveries of form, volume, texture and color.

Campers focus on hand-building to familiarize themselves with the medium. Different methods of construction will be practiced. Campers will develop unique expressive results while using a potter's wheel and experimenting with slab work. Each student will experience and enjoy the medium in her/his own way. With the instructor's guidance and suggestions each individual will create at least one completed piece by the end camp.

One site visit to a ceramics museum is also planned prior to camp.

Participants will:
  • Take an in-depth tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous winter home and studio at Taliesin West
  • Learn various techniques to create art using clay
  • Select the glazes to use and discover how firing in the kiln can change the colors.
Fee covers the entire two weeks of day camp, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

About

Taliesin West

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is proud to present, Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s world-famous home and architectural laboratory, which offers guests the unique, immersive experience of a powerful and extremely personal National Historic Landmark.

Just minutes from downtown Scottsdale, Taliesin West is Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert masterpiece. In 1937, Wright and his apprentices built an architectural wonder out of the stone and sand that surrounded them in the Sonoran desert on the foothills of the McDowell Mountains. Many of those apprentices (“the Fellowship”) who worked and lived alongside Mr. Wright still live at Taliesin West, as do the current students and faculty of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture -- making Taliesin West an ongoing, vibrant community.

The Taliesin West experience is both immersive and powerful.

Come to Taliesin West and be inspired.
