We enjoyed the tour very much but regretted that we were not taken inside an actual tenament. We would have preferred to see an actual tenament than the converted hotel. Good experience nonetheless. Thank you Jeff.

We weren't familiar w/this part of town and its heritage, but walking w/ a very friendly and knowledgable guide through the streests, hearing stories, tasting its magnificent falvours etc. was a great experience. We sure recomand it to any local person who wants to explore the city on its marvel options and for tourists!

Jeff is the perfect tour guide. He not only talks, he listens and quickly ensures that what he is explaining is what we were interested in hearing about and seeing. The tour itself covered everything from architecture to synagogues to pickles! Highly recommended!

A Guided Tour Around a Disappearing World
Sun, Jun 20, 10   1:15 PM annieloumar Male 70+ International Tourist(s) Family With Children
Jeff takes his tour groups below the surface of this part of old Jewish Manhatten. We felt the reality of the fiercely independent synagogue of survivors of the ancient Jewish community of Greece; the tenements and sweatshops of old, the communal institutions and newspapers that educated, guided and defended the early immigrants on their long road to making a life for themselves as a proud and creative constituent of American society. Most of what he showed and explained to us would probably have remained unnoticed without his enthusiastic assistance. One important lesson to be learnt from Jeff's tour is that the Jewish experience in Manhatten has proved the old adage about the Jewish people,- that, just as in the case of olives, the harder they are pressed, the better the quality of the oil. The tour took us to a variety of historical sites that gave us a much better feeling for Jewish history in the Lower East Side of New York. The tour guide was a fountainhead of information and carried historical photos with him that helped us to imagine the neighborhood at the turn of the century. The tour was comfortably paced, not too slow or too fast, and included a stop for authentic bagels and bialys.

Our entire group of 12 men and women thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Lower East Side. Our guide, Jeff Altman, was most informative and made everything so much fun. We saw so much of the old and the new in the area and enjoyed seeing how things had changed but kept much of the original flavor. It was a most worthwhile afternoon.

The tour was very instructive. It showed us another aspect of NY and told us many facts about the Jewish immigration on spot.

The Lower Eastside
Sun, Dec 17, 06   1:15 PM hersheys Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Our tour guide, Jeff, met with us promptly and introductions were made and our interesting and informative tour began. As I former New Yorker I had been to the lower Eastside but never toured in such depth. It was nostalgic walking the same streets and going into the same type of shops as my bubbe. Heather Malkoff
