Activity Description
Join us for a walk through Northeast D.C.’s Brookland community, often referred to as "Little Rome” due to the myriad of Roman Catholic institutions located in the neighborhood.

Sites seen on this walk include:

  • Residential Brookland
  • The Augustinian and Jesuit monastic houses
  • The old Bishop's House
  • The beautiful Franciscan Monastery and Garden
  • The extraordinary art deco Franciscan College
If time and energy permit, we will make an extra loop to the hidden-away Varnum Campus, with its tiny circle of 1920's Catholic institutional buildings.

What Is Not Included?
This walk will not include an interior tour of any buildings. This is one of a pair of walking tours offered on tSaturday, May 10about this part of Washington, D.C.  (The second walk, "Little Rome on Campus" begins at 2:00 p.m.)  Participants who attend both walks are welcome to take a lunch break in between tours.  Note, though, that you are on your own to find a restaurant or cafe and must pay for your own lunch. The walk fee does not include the cost of  lunch.  Your guide can offer suggestions as well as directions to various local eateries.
