I Can't Believe I Ate My Way Through Chinatown!

My husband and I have been visiting San Francisco for more than 20 years, but we have never felt a part of it like we did after visiting Chinatown with Shirley Fong-Torres on her Wok Wiz Tour! Because of Shirley our family walked the streets and alleys of that area with new eyes, appreciating the culture and the history of Chinatown like never before. Shirley has a vivacious, friendly demeanor that is so inviting and she brings the stories she tells to life. Just walking the colorful streets of Chinatown is not enough to appreciate the richness of the area, but with Shirley and Wok Wiz Tours you have a fast track ticket inside the culture that is still so vibrantly alive in Chinatown; a guide into restaurants, markets, and stores teeming with locals that takes you into their daily life and gives you a chance to eat, drink, laugh, and savor your way through a delicious morning unlike any other! From steaming jook and parades of dim sum to delicious, fragrant teas; from warm, fresh custard pastry in our hands to a table top of noodles, vegetables and main dishes, our whole family thought that this was one of our favorite parts of our trip! The food was pretty good and a good variety. There was some information about the food and Chinatown. We would have preferred much more information about both. Shirley was very energetic, very nice, and gave individual attention to everyone in the group. And it was a great group.

My wife and I enjoyed the tour very much. We live near Sacramento and come to San Francisco quite often we hadn't visited Chinatown recently. We liked Shirley's humor very much. This is a trip that can be enjoyed by seniors or almost anyone. I would certainly be open to do this again or one Wok Wiz's other tours. By the way my wife and I travel to S. F. by Amtrac and play cards on the way..

Our guide Frank was a native of Chinatown. He knew history of the area and had great knowledge of the food. We dined at very authentic restaurants. The places where the locals go and not tourists. He was very personable and made the tour enjoyable.

Born in Chinatown, Frank knew everyone and everything. He answered all questions, made detours to accommodate our requests, fed us well, gave us food photography pointers and had a great sense of humor. I would enthusiastically recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in Chinese food, culture and history.

This was my 3rd, yes, 3rd Wok Wiz Tour and they just keep getting better and better. The food, the people, the cultural and gustatory experience - and of course, Shirley's humor and insights. I'll be going again!

What a wonderful experience. We've lived in the Bay Area for 30+ years and this is the first time we decided to take a China Town tour. We were a small group of about seven with Shirley as our guide. We ate in local establishments, watched the chef cook food, learned and tasted "real" tea from China, laughed, talked, shared and ate. This is one tour I would recommend. Shirley Fong-Torres is a master. She escorted us through some most memorable Chinatown experiences. From the Red Blossom Tea Shop to Yuet Lee's restaurant, we enjoyed every minute. There was a spontaneity to the tour that extended into great conversations about food. We'll do it again!

A fantastic and delicious experience. The walking was easy. The information and sites wonderful. The food diverse and spectacular. Also, we became a big family by the end, enjoying the lucnheon feast and laughing at stories we were all telling.
