Bernice was excellent. Our only complaint was that the lunch was pretty good, but not great. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and will recommend it to friends. |

The tour was interesting as our guide gave us a good background on Chinatown's varied past. Where i felt it was lacking though was the finaly Dim Sum lunch at the end as i couldn't gone somewhere for better food. However, if your not too familiar with Chinese cuisine and would like to experience China Town with a so called expert than this tour is for you. |

Our family of 5 (dad, mom, 3 teenagers, boy, two girls) enjoyed this lively behind the scenes tour of Chinatown led by Alberta. We heard stories of her childhood in the area and discovered places we surely wouldn't have noticed or understood had we taken the tour on our own. Recommended. |

things i didn't like:
our group started out larger than 15, which was reduced when the group leader was questioned about it.
standing, facing into the sun listening to information was not fun.
zooming into shops where certain items were sold felt like paid advertising.
snide comments made by the tour owner about comments others made in their review.
i enjoyed talking to other people in our group at lunch . . . but the food was so-so and except for the company, you would be better off getting lunch on your own.
things i did like:
the group leader was a lovely woman who told a bit about her personal history, which was very interesting (tho i would have like to have heard more general history, too.)
the visit to the tea shop was the most fun and informative.
the two children with me (8 & 13) enjoyed the trip. |

My husband and I took a Wok Wiz tour with Shirley in 1987. We returned to SF last week and took the tour again with our two teenage boys. We all loved it! Howard, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the history of Chinatown and kept our interest at each stop along the tour. If my teens enjoyed it, need I say more! ; ) We had the pleasure of running into Shirley during the tour. She took the time to greet each tour member. Good luck on your upcoming book, Shirley! You and Howard made for a memorable Wok Wiz day! |

alberta energetically herded us up and down the streets and lanes of Chinatown, maintaining a steady flow of chat regarding the general (and her personal) history of the area, shopping opportunities, traditional culture and changing attitudes, and finishing with a dim sum lunch. she crammed an amazing amount of fascinating information into a short time and made sure everyone on the tour ended with their questions answered and directions back to any points visited for further exploration. personal favorites included short talk on tea at a brother/sister specialty shop, a tiny buddhist temple, herbalist shop and quick peeks at variety of food stalls displaying wildly different edibles. |

I had a wonderful time on this tour. Our tour guide knew so many stories. You really get to see China Town from the inside. The food at lunch was very good. Yes, there was a mix up in seating and we were given custard filled buns instead of pork buns, but the buns were wonderful. The visit to the tea house is amazing. Save room in your suitcase for the tea you'll be bring home. |

I booked this tour for my cousin and I since she had never been to San Francisco Chinatown before and I had never been on an official tour of Chinatown. We both came away enthusiastic to recommend the tour to other family members and friends. Our guide, Alberta, was terrific. With her personal knowledge of and experience living in Chinatown, she made it feel like we were hanging around with someone "visiting the old neighborhood". At the same time, she kept everything efficient and the group well organized, making sure we got a good taste of the many sights and sounds of the area and emphasizing that we could always return to specific sites that interested us after the tour. The lunch at the end of the tour was very good as well, authentic, but not too exotic for those unfamiliar with Chinese cuisine. |

We have experienced walking tours in many cities. This is the first time I have been disappointed. There was little historical content. The tour leader seemed more interested in pointing out places to shop. Our Dim Sum lunch was also very disappointing.
