The Wok Wiz tour was extremely informative. The tour guide was born and raised in China Town, so she was able to give us a real insiders perspective of a different culture.
At the end of the tour we had dim sum at a Chinese restaraunt. The food was fabulous. |

In a couple of hours, you not only will receive a great overview of Chinatown and it's attractions, but be highly entertained by your guide. Don't schedule anything right after the tour, you'll be spending a couple of hours back on your own to buy more. |

The walk through Chinatown was interesting. I liked visiting the square where the older chinese men hang out, the fortune cookie factory, the tea shop (especially the tasting,) the taosist temple and a couple of the food markets. I thought that perhaps there was too much time in too many markets learning about the various vegetables. I would have rather had more history about chinatown itself but it was definitely a great part of our SF visit and would recommend it to others. The dim sum lunch was GREAT, and a ton of food! |

There was a very friendly introduction from Shirley at the beginning of the tour which helped the group to get together well right at the start.
On the tour the history and growth of Chinatown was explained very interestingly. Description of and introduction to some of the delightful shops and locations was most helpful. Explanations and answers to questions were given in a friendly and enlightening way.
The walking tour was of a reasonable length and not tiring. It covered a varied area of Chinatown and gave a good flavour of its contents including shops selling many ranges of goods and food which, in many cases, are quite different from most Western ones. The expertise of the persons involved in food preparation was admired.
At the end of the tour opportunity was taken to sample a range of Chinese food at a Dim Sum meal in a very pleasant restaurant. This was a valuable experience and the varieties of food and tea were all very good in taste and quality. |

The Wok Wiz tour served my husband and I as a good way to get to know Chinatown and helped us to feel comfortable to explore more on our own. Our tour guide was very friendly and informative, although his topics of discussion often went off on unrelated tangents. After our tour, we spend a lot more time in Chinatown and thouroughly enjoyed the experience. |

I enjoyed the chance to learn some of Chinatown's history and customs. Howard did an excellent job explaining, as well as entertaining the tour group. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to know more about Chinatown. |

I was travelling alone in the city and had planned to just wander through Chinatown on my own but thought I'd give the Wok Wiz tour a try. I am very glad I did!! My guide, Hank Quock, was great! I had read other (negative) reviews about a Wok Wiz tour guide (possibly him?) who talked about himself/his family history a lot but I think it really added to my visit to see Chinatown through the lens of someone who had generations of connections with it. On our tour, we visited the fortune cookie shop, a tea company (where we were treated to a brief history of tea and a tasting - very cool & delicious), a temple, and plenty of streetside stops (with historic tidbits) before heading to a delicious, filling meal at a local restaurant. The Autumn Moon Festival was in full swing during our tour and we saw lion dancers and visited some booths. Hank seemed to know everyone (people would stop us in the street just to say hello to him); it felt like I was a part of the party and not just a visitor. I definitely recommend the tour if you are looking to experience Chinatown in a more personal way. |

The Wok Wiz tour was great. We got to see so many aspects of Chinatown that we would have never found on our own. Our guide was Hank and he was fabulous. The Buddhist temple was beautiful. And lunch, quite simply, was the best Chinese I've had in years. Hank was even nice enough to take us to the Tea Shop after lunch, even though the tour was over (we had missed it earlier due to time). All, in all, a great tour. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to the shop, as it can be tricky to find, especially if you are walking from a cable car stop. |
