Enjoyable Overview of Chinatown

This was an excellent opportunity to see and learn about San Francisco's Chinatown. Our informative guide offered an insider's view of past and present life and culture of Chinatown. A bit of hard walking and uphill climbing, but worth it for those who are able. The eating consisted of a sample of tea, fortune cookie and pig's tongue, plus a good, but less than spectacular, lunch. All in all, a great tour, worth the price, that I would recommend to others.

Been there several times but now learned about it

We so seldom take tours of what is in our own back yard. I've walked Chinatown many times over the years, but taking a tour and hearing all the stories and history gave me an understanding and insight to the area I'd never had before. Commentary was witty and personal which was a nice touch. The stop at the tea shop and lunch complemented the excursion and all provided a wonderful insight to a world beyond what the casual tourist sees.

Great intro to Chinese Culture and History

Our tour guide, Chuck, did a marvelous job of telling us about how Chinese came to San Francisco and Chinese culture. He included his own experiences and had a delightful way of sharing. The meal at the end of the tour was excellent.

I used to live near San Francisco, and thought I knew China Town. But that was just the main streets. The side alleys and colorful sites we visited were a revelation. Besides being very knowledgable, our guide, Chuck, was a hoot !

Good tour, enthusiastic and knowledgable guide Chuck Spoilt only by the tour being overbooked - 18 - 8 would have been better. Group too large and when stopping at a shop would block sidewalk Would have been great without this problem Plenty of food at the meal excellent talk from tea shop

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting an insider's view of San Francisco's Chinatown. Our tour guide, Bernice, was enthusiastic, funny, and very gregarious. She took us through alleyways and into shops not usually frequently by tourists. She also took a very personal approach to the tour, providing a personal insight into her family's history in Chinatown. The tour concluded with an excellent dim sum lunch at a Chinatown restaurant. Bravo!

Fantastic Experience!

The WokWiz Daily Tour of Chinatown was both a fantastic experience and an incredible bargain. The tour leader, Dorothy Quock, did a superb job showing us around a place that's influenced her - and that she's influenced - throughout her entire life. Every aspect of the walking tour - from listening to the clicking of maj jong tiles while traversing a narrow alleyway to watching elder Chinese men play a traditional game of Elephant Chess in Portsmouth Square - made for a memorable experience. And the eight-course lunch at the tour's conclusion was exceptional - far exceeding my expectations for a tour lunch. The ambiance of the restaurant, food portions (no one left hungry) and the quality of the food (especially the dim sum) were great. I highly recommend the WokWiz daily tour and personally hope to participate in another WokWiz tour on my next visit to San Francisco.

Chinatown Walking Tour with lunch

The walking tour was enjoyable and relaxing. However, the guide talked a little too much about his family. He did inform us about the history of the area, so I did learn some things I did not know. We saw the temple, a fortune cookie factory and a tea shop where you could purchase various teas. We wandered through alleyways and finally stopped for lunch. The lunch was a bit skimpy for the price we paid. I am not certain I would do this tour again. I've had better food on my own in Chinatown. I felt the this company was overrated.

A great way to see SF Chinatown.

SF Chinatown is a lot of fun to see on your own; however, the Wok Wiz tour gives your visit depth. I entertain many out of town guests and always encourage them to take the tour. I've been a couple of times. The different tour guides have their own special insight into Chinatown and are very interesting. It only takes a couple of hours and ends with a scrumptious meal of dim sum!

Outstanding view of Chinatown

Each Wok Wiz tour of Chinatown is customized by the perspective of the tour guide and the interests of the tour group. Dorothy took us on a walking tour, providing a historical view of the area based on her experiences growing up in Chinatown. She pointed out shops to return to, took us to places we would have never discovered on our own, and filled us with insight on how this unique area evolved. The tour culminated with a delicious dim sum lunch at a local restaurant. My husband and I highly recommend a tour with Wok Wiz.
