The Wok Wiz tour was a wonderful activity. The tour is a very leisurely walk that allowed our tour guide to give us a history of Chinatown along with several personal stories that added to the depth of the tour. We had several stops including a temple, pharmacy, cookie shop and tea shop. The tour ended with a multi-course dim sum meal a local restaurant that was delightful. A well thought out tour. |

We were originally in San Francisco about a year ago. We had heard a lot about Chinatown so my husband and I decided to go and see it ourselves. We truly did not understand it and were not impressed. We recently returned to San Francisco (we are from Alberta, Canada) and I researched the most popular places to see. It seemed quite unanimous, that Chinatown was the place to go. After researching a little more on the internet I found Wikwok tours came highly recommended. I figured we should give Chinatown another shot, this time with a guide. Well I have to say we were thoroughly impressed. Bernice was our guide and she was wonderful! She grew up in Chinatown and so we had the inside scoop on what it was like to live there. We watched pharmacists preparing prescriptions in a herbal shop, we tasted amazing teas in a specialty tea shop, we watched people make fortune cookies, we listened to a woman performing her ritual chanting in a temple, we even had a fresh fish jump on the sidewalk in front of us after Bernice told us about how fresh the meat was in the meat market-was it ever! After all that and much more we went for a delicious Dim Sum. I would definately recommend this for anyone who wants a true taste of Chinatown. |

I think this was a very interesting and informative tour. It was a little boring for my 16 year old cousin that I brought along with me.
Going to the temple and being blessed was very interesting, the cookie factory was small, and the food was tasty. Lots of good information about the history of Chinatown! :) WE both liked that.
I enjoyed the discussions over lunch. It gave us a chance to see where everyone in the tour was from, and we talked about the good food and future restaurants to visit!
Improvements - order more egg-rolls. They are yummie, and more would be wonderful!
Also, at the market section - don't spend so long explaining each vegetable or piece of meat. This section became very LONG and I noticed that several others in the group began not paying attention as well.
Our tour guide was extremely friendly and kind. He spoke in a gentle manner that was easy to understand and remember. |

My wife and I have been to a San Francisco a number of times. We have previously done a walk through of Chinatown on our own. It is clear to us that the benefit of the knowledge and enthusiasm of tour guide makes this a very wise way of ensuring that you get as much out of your time as is possible. Our guide was very knowledgeable having grown up in Chinatown. |

The tour was enjoyable not the best tour we've had and not the worst just alright. I would recommend that you take the walking tour only and not participate in the dim sum. While the food was delicious, the serving size was ridiculous - one pot sticker, one little pork bun, one.... you get the idea. You can do better getting your own dim sum. |

We enjoyed the tour of Chinatown with our guide Hank. A very pleasant man, friendly and chatty. Maybe a bit too chatty. We heard a lot about Hank and his family but not much about Chinatown. Was hoping for a bit more history.
It was still a lot of fun and I do recommend it. Especially if you get to meet Shirley-she is a hoot!
The dim sum lunch was good, tried things that I hadn't had before. |

Our guide, Hank, was helpful and knew his way around Chinatown! He showed us many of those little shops in the alleys that one wouldn't necessarily go down on your own! He showed us many stops that might add to our day in Chinatown after the tour and was willing to show us teahouses after the end of the official tour! He was a great guide and fun to converse with and listen to. |

Hank was a very knowledgeable tour guide. He grew up in Chinatown and had many stories to tell that illustrated what life was like when he was growing up in Chinatown 50 or more years ago. He was able to teach us some history of Chinatown from a very personal perspective. We saw things we never would have seen had we explored on our own. The marketplace - with live chickens and fish being put in bags! The fortune cookie factory - amazing! A Buddhist temple, with an interesting story behind it (across the street from the site of Hank's father's old restaurant). And to illustrate the co-existence of many religions in Chinatown - an old Catholic church. The square where men and women have played cards separately for generations! The first pagoda built in Chinatown that helped preserve the neighborhood. The site of opium dens many years ago. A tea store where you can smell over 50 kinds of Chinese teas carefully selected and imported from China by the owners' son; if you're patient you can have fresh tea prepared for you by a true connoiseur of teas. The Dim Sum lunch was a delicious way to conclude the tour. My wife and I could go on an on - this was one of the best tours we have ever taken. |

This was a pleasant experience. We learned a lot of things that we wouldn't know had we gone by ourself. I think that this company needs younger tour guides, ours was good, but she couldn't be heard by all the noise on the streets, and she kept coughing and almost falling down. I kept wondering what I would do if she passed out.
We passed another tour company with a youger guide, and I definatley would have gone with that company had I known about it. The Dim Sum lunch was excellent. |
