Not what we had read in reviews

We have been to China Town several times on our own. This trip included our teenage kids so we thought a guided tour with a local expert would give us detailed information into the history and culture of China Town. We were excited to learn we would be in the group that the owner would direct thinking we had the most informative guide. Instead we heard a great deal about her life, her career, her writings, her family, and her celebrity. We only actually visited 3 spots and were not given much histroy other then the friendship between the owner of the tour place and the owner of the shop. We were very interested in going to a temple. While we visited one, we were again given little information about the practice or rituals. While it was interesting, it was not worth the hefty fee. Lunch was okay.

For the money, you can't beat this tour. Chuck, our guide, was entertaining, informative and generally fun to be around. Being locals, we know Chinatown but we still learned new things about the area. We were also pleasantly suprised about the dim sum at the restaraunt. Super tasty, very filling and not very greasy either.

Our guide grew up in China Town so he was able to relate first hand experiences. He was also knowledgable on various historic aspects of the development of the area, early immigration, and culture(s). The multi-course lunch was a delicious ending to an informative and enjoyable tour!. My 16 year old son actually said it was one of the best parts of our trip. Wow....something we agree on.

The trip was an easy walk with a knowledgeable tour guide. Dorothy taught us a lot about Chinese culture, but her personal experiences dominated the talk (they were interesting); hence we missed a tea ceremony; the fortune cookie factory and other points of interest. People who had been on the tour before were a little disappointed. As for me, I was a first time visitor and the day was a perfect one so I had a nice time.

We enjoyed the tour very much. Our guide was maybe not as "dynamic" as others we have had, but he shared a lot of good information and really got us oriented to the area so we now feel comfortable to visit Chinatown on our own. The lunch that was included was great! In fact, we went back to the same restaurant a few nights later!

We have lived in Northern CA for many years and visited Chinatown several times. This is our first time doing a guided tour and it was excellent! Our tour guide was Hank Quock. He's a funny, spry man in his 70's who grew up in Chinatown. He shared a lot of history based on his experiences as a child growing up there. We visited the fortune cookie factory, Buddist temple, walked by many landmarks and had lunch at the Four Seas. The dim-sun was very good. Nice assortment of items to try and plenty of everything! We walked through one market and passed lots of shops but never stopped to actually shop- that's the only thing I would change. I would have liked to have picked up a few souvenirs along the way- but we had to wait until after the tour and go back to find what we wanted. Our tour group was rather large as well- 18 including the guide- there was a mix-up with one reservation which lead to our group being large. But Mr. Quock was very good about speaking up and accomodating our large group. We learned a lot more about Chinatown history and facts on this tour than we ever would have while just visiting on our own. I highly recommend this tour to everyone!! In fact my Mom just booked a tour for her and some friends! Definitely don't miss out! Shirley is very friendly and funny too- she greeted us at the office prior to the tour. Parking on the weekend is a great deal too! $3 for the day! Thank you for a great experience! We will definitely be back again someday with friends!

Very interesting and informative mix of China Town history and culture. Excellent tour guide (Alberta) who grew up in China Town and told great stories about her childhood there. Dim sum lunch was very good; very attractive restaurant. I highly recommend this tour to first-time visitors to San Francisco or to people who have visited many times and never thoroughly explored China Town.

Our guide for the tour of Chinatown in San Francisco was conducted by a Chinese man who had grown up in Chinatown. He had the tour well organized to show us the main attractions and had stories from his past to embellish the descriptions of the places. He also had a working understanding of Chinese culture, which he shared with us. In addition to the shops, he showed us a fortune cookie baker, a Buddist temple and a wonderful Dim Sum lunch. The richness of his experience and his enthusiastic, good-humored willingness to share it with us made this tour the highlight of our trip to the city (and that's saying something!)

my son, who is 17, and i enjoyed the tour very much. our guide was very engaging,. funny, and knowlegable about chinese customs, and china town history. if the tour kept the attention of a 17 year old, you know it had to be entertaining!

Really enjoyed the tour and side bar stories of China Town and of the nightclub era of S.F. Chuck Gee was great. It was very warm the day we took tour. Lunch was good but we were expecting more of the traditional dim sum lunch that you see delivered on carts. I would definitely recommend tour to friends. Very convenient to riding BART and getting off at Montgomery St.
