I truly recommend this tour to visitors Domestic and International. The Family will truly enjoy the history and the culture found in Chinatown. Dorothy the guide is excellent. She is very articulate and knowledgeable. Her warm and caring personality made the tour enjoyable. The Dim Sum lunch is very good. I hope others will take advantage of this tour and learn more about other culture. Thank you Wok Wiz tour for making our trip to San Francisco memorable.

Dorothy was a 72 yr old incredible woman. I loved her personal touch, a native, loved her enthusiasm. History was fascinating, food emphasis and cultural differences much appreciated. Well worth while.

Fun Tour with Personal Touch

This was a tour of the very best type: Personal and intimate. It was as if we were visiting long lost relatives (only better). Shirley was fun and interesting and full of details that enriched our experience. Lunch was great, so good, we went back another evening for dinner. We had a great time. It was the highlight of our trip.

I really enjoyed it - a lot of the history and flavor of China town, and the dim sum was great. I also enjoyed meeting the other people on the tour.

My husband and I had the pleasure of taking this tour on a brief visit without our children. I thought the tour was very interesting. Our guide Dorothy was able to show us a side of China Town that we would not have seen (or even found) had we been on our own. The lunch was excellent and would have cost almost as much as the tour if we wanted to order all seven courses. I would highly recommend including this tour as part of your visit to San Francisco.

Perfect for couples

My husband and I enjoyed the tour. The information presented was interesting and niether too much or too little. We particularly enjoyed being able to have lunch with others. If just two persons had gone out for lunch you would not have been able to try the vairiety, and may have been hesitant about trying unfamiliar foods. The tour was a great way to experience Chinatown!

This tour will give you a glimpse of the veneer of Chinese culture in San Francisco. The commentary along with the cuisine offered is decidely lite. Comments on feng shui were limited to noting the use of the color red in the office meeting place and its connection to wealth. The two hours of guided touring did not include a tea ceremony or a visit to a Buddhist Temple as promised but did include a walk ( run) through a traditional chinese medicine shop and a self-guided visit to a Taoist storefront temple, both without material comment from the guide. The cuisine would have been exotic were this the 1950's when chop suey was the standard. It was not dim sum as advertised and even included a curry chicken dish, off the map of Chinese cuisine. Any fast food take-out street corner chinese would compare favorably. Notably those at our table fell into two camps with their comments i.e., "what is dim sum" and "this isn't dim sum". For the former the meal was exotic. If you are absolute new to Chinese culture this tour may be for you. If you have taken one from column "a" and one from column "b" more than once in your life, I recommend using any general tour guidebook for sightseeing and choose virtually any restaurant in Chinatown. The results will be at least as reawarding. After 20 years, this tour needs substantial revitalization or bifurcation into beginners and culturally adept groups. The guide was born in the community and lives there so her knowledge is unquestionable. In two hours though, she revealed less than necessary to hold our interest.

As a fifty ish Mom, I loved the history and personal detail offered by our tour guide. It was especially meaningful to learn our guide was born and raised in Chinatown (we even visited her family's original apartment). My teen girls were not quite as enamored of the history tour as me and neither appreciated the great meal. I loved it but would probably not recommend for teens and younger kids.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide was born and raised in Chinatown and was intimately familiar with all the alleyways and shops. She shared stories of her childhood that helped us understand better what it might have been like living and growing up there. The tour finished off with an excellent meal. My wife and I highly recommend this as one of the more memorable events of our San Francisco experience.
