The tour guide was very knowledgeable and it was a great tour. We ate lunch at a restaurant and it was the best Chinese I've had. I had food there that I have disliked other times I tried it, but it was great there.
Highly recommended. |

Alberta, our Wok Wiz guide, was a gem. She was brought up in Chinatown where she lived until her marriage and was enthusiastically informative and entertaining. My wife loved the way she described recipes and cooking techniques throughout the tour. One of the highlights was the Red Blossom Tea Company, a family run business on Grant, where we were introduced to the best brewing techniques. We also really enjoyed the surprisingly chinsy Taoist temple. After the two hours walking tour, we then moved to the Four Seas Restaurant. We were just expecting a few dim sum. It was not a lavish meal but more than met our expectations and was accompanied by two different teas provided courtesy of Red Blossom. Overall, we strongly recommend this tour. |

Chuck, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and well spoken. He was enthusiastic about his subject and passed on his excitement about San Francisco and Chinatown to us.
The food at the restaurant where the tour ended was very good. And the tea tasting was educational and delicious. I strongly recommend this tour. |

I had been on this tour two years ago and wanted to share the experience with my sister who was visiting the San Francisco area for the first time. I live in Monterey county and it was well worth the drive to see the real China town. The Red Bloosom Tea shop was an acceptional experience. The educational talk and tea sampling was marvelous. I would recommend this tour to all my friends and the lunch was again superb. I would take my friends and go a third time. |

Lola gave us the tour- I especially liked how she brought it 'home', showing us where she lived etc. Loved it. Thank you. |

Excellent tour. Frank was a great leader who offered much personal insight and history regarding Chinatown. The tea shop was outstanding and we ended up going back to buy some tea after the tour.
I like the fact that we focused on a few things in depth instead of going in a hurry and superficially glossing over everything.
It would have been nice to have gone to Stockton Street however to hear some stories about it. |

Excellent guide who described what it was like as Chinatown initially developed, and the conflicts with the government as they sought to stem immigration. Wandered around shops I wouldn't have gone in. Finished with an interesting meal - not the best cuisine but again things I wouldn't have experienced, with further information about Chinese culture as we ate. Strongly recommended. |

Our tour guide was Herman - he grew up in Chinatown so he knew a lot of the history and what it was like to live there. It was cool how we went in various shops and saw what everyday life was like in Chinatown and some of the history and culture. Sometimes it felt that Herman was a little too Americanized but it definitely helped to have someone who understood both cultures. We met the owner (Shirley?) at the beginning and the end. It kind of seemed like she wanted to just sell her book but we only saw/spoke to her for a brief period since Herman was our tour guide. Overall, very informative and worth it to see what it is like in Chinatown. |

If you are only going to do one planned tour....this has to be it. Our tour guide, Lola, was amazing. This tour gives you an insider's view to Chinatown. Without Lola, we would have just had a superficial glimpse of the "looks" of the community. We found out so much about the culture, the people, the history and best of all the food. Do not miss this tour...plan your trip around it! |
