An Inside View

I have always loved Chinatown, but now I have a little knowledge about how the Chinese people really live and some of their traditions. Our tour guide was great. She was well spoken, friendly, and she gave us insight into Chinese culture. I never knew that many of the Chinese living in Chinatown do not have refrigeration and they shop daily for their food. I also learned so much about tea that I wish I would have had a pad of paper to take notes. If you want to know where to shop for something, just ask . Our tour guide knew where to buy herbs from a shop owner who speaks perfect english.

Lots of history and good food. Our guide, Ray I believe, was born in China Town -- his knowledge of the local history was amazing. He was delightful and entertaining too. We HIGHLY recommend this great adventure!

It was great to hear this information from Chuck who had grown up in Chinatown. His humor and style were fantastic. He made everyone feel very comfortable and I delighted in hearing his information.

Third time's a charm

This is my third time taking this tour and each time it gets better. Frank was more informative this time perhaps because he knew that there were people in the group who were more than just tourists. They were students and teachers of Asian culture. He did an exemplary job. I'll continue to bring visitors to SF on this tour.

The best tour I have ever taken

My cousin Patty from Scottsdale AZ and I from Santa Cruz CA spent two days in the city mainly so we could take the walk around tour of Chinatown. Our tour guide, Dorothy, has been conducting this tour for 18 years and it was as if it was a brand new experience for her as well as for us . She had such enthusiasm and love for her subject that we were affected by the pure joy of the tour. We loved visiting the neighborhood tea shop and the tea ceremony. The shops and people who lived and worked in them added to the family feel of the tour. The history of Chinatown and San Francisco was presented in an informal and memorable fashion. We were encouraged to ask questions and to add our own commentary. Our dim sum lunch at the Four Seas restaurant was delicious and our chopsticks lessons were fullfilling and fun. We will bring some of our other 300 relatives along next time to take the tour. I became aware of the Wok Wiz through news and TV shows featuring Shirley Torres-Fong. Thank you so much for offering this tour for us. Karen Smith & Pat Clark

Very much enjoyed my Wok Wiz tour. Tour guide was very well informed, and shared her own experiences along with facts and history of the area. Good pace, with stops at tea shop, temple, fortune cookie factory, and restaurant well coordinated.

We were greeted by Shirley Fong-Torres herself. She was extremely personable and informational. The tour made us fall in love with Chinatown and it's people. We ended up going there almost everyday because of the great food and good prices for souvenirs. My husband and I went 16 years ago on this same tour which we loved so we wanted to bring our kids this time.

Overall - AN EXCELLENT TOUR!!!

I think this was a very interesting and informative tour. It was a little boring for my 16 year old cousin that I brought along with me. Going to the temple and being blessed was very interesting, the cookie factory was small, and the food was tasty. Lots of good information about the history of Chinatown! :) WE both liked that. I enjoyed the discussions over lunch. It gave us a chance to see where everyone in the tour was from, and we talked about the good food and future restaurants to visit! Improvements - order more egg-rolls. They are yummie, and more would be wonderful! Also, at the market section - don't spend so long explaining each vegetable or piece of meat. This section became very LONG and I noticed that several others in the group began not paying attention as well. Our tour guide was extremely friendly and kind. He spoke in a gentle manner that was easy to understand and remember.

Our tour leader, Frank, had fantastic stories throughout the tour. He told us about his childhood in Chinatown, and offered plenty of opportunities to take photos. He even suggested a great place to get a $30 foot massage. (Thanks Frank! It was a lifesaver!) The food was great, and I even got some recipes and cooking tips!
