An Inside View

I have always loved Chinatown, but now I have a little knowledge about how the Chinese people really live and some of their traditions. Our tour guide was great. She was well spoken, friendly, and she gave us insight into Chinese culture. I never knew that many of the Chinese living in Chinatown do not have refrigeration and they shop daily for their food. I also learned so much about tea that I wish I would have had a pad of paper to take notes. If you want to know where to shop for something, just ask . Our tour guide knew where to buy herbs from a shop owner who speaks perfect english.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour - our guide Dorothy was interesting and informative. I have teenage kids and they loved this and were enthralled by our guide constantly. Thought we got a snack at the end, but had fantastic 5 course meal - great value and good fun.

We have been on several tours of Chinatown, but this was the most informative. The tea tasting was very educational and the dim sum was delicious. We thouroughly enjoyed ourselves. Being a native San Franciscan, I was delighted to go to "alleys' and tea shops that I had never been to. The jewelry shop recomendation was right on.

We all enjoyed the tour. Especially impressed with the lunch at the Far East Restaurant. The only dissapointment was that our guide skipped the Fortune Cookie Factory. There were 4 small children in the group who were not too interested in the history of Chinatown, and I'm sure the Cookie Factory would have been the highlight for them. TH

Our guide, Dorothy, enjoyed showing and sharing her home town with us as much as we enjoyed listening to her stories. She was well-informed and so pleasant. The lunch was great--we could have sat around the table and chatted for the rest of the afternoon--except that our young daughter, adopted from China, was anxious to go out and shop!

I received an education in Chinese culture, as well as the history of San Francisco and Chinatown. The visit to a temple was particularly illuminating. The tour guide was funny and enthusiastic. I highly recommend this tour.

The guide was informative. Gave us the history of how and why the Chinese immigrated and how Chinatown was established. Helped us understand what life was like for these immigrants over 100 years ago. She also gave us experiences of her childhood growing up in Chinatown. We sampled tea at a local shop, visited a temple and ended the tour with a variety of delicious Chinese food.

We had a great time on this tour and the lunch was absolutely delicious. Don't eat anything for breakfast because there is soooo much for lunch! Also, the tea house did a FABULOUS job - very professional and interesting. Fortune cookie factory was a little weak, but the cookies were great! I would definitely recommend this tour.
