Chef Shirley Fong-Torres, owner of WOK WIZ, designed her tours to showcase one of the most remarkable neighborhoods in San Francisco. Every tour leader on Shirley's team was either born in, or grew up in Chinatown, giving a very local flavor to the tour, and each speaks fluent English as well as Chinese, which helps a great deal in communicating our needs to the primarily Chinese-speaking business people in the area.
Shirley has been in business for over 20 years, is a former middle and high school teacher, and was a corporate manager for Levi Strauss & Co. She is the author of four books, is a regular guest on the Travel Channel, Food Network and the History and Discovery Channels, and FINE LIVING TV. She has been featured in the NY Times, LA Times, Bon Appetit, Gourmet, and Cooking Light. Shirley travels around the country as a guest chef or as a food and travel writer.

Activity Description
One of San Francisco's most popular destinations for visitors is our Chinatown. We welcome new friends to our colorful, exciting, and historic community!
It is art, it is history, it is fun...but most of all, it's delicious! On the tour, time-permitting you will:
- Learn about the history, folklore, culture and food of America's largest Chinatown
- Visit a Taoist and Buddhist temple
- Enjoy a visit to a premier Chinese teashop
- Go to a Chinese deli
- Peek into side streets and alleyways, following the heady scent of a Chinese herbal shop
- And, after the tour, share a hosted luncheon, a "tasting menu" that includes a couple of 'dim sum' items followed by a popular entree, side dish and dessert at a traditional Chinese restaurant. Most participants find the food offering to be comparable to a light to moderate sized lunch and some choose to eat more afterwards while many are full for hours!
Enjoy piping hot cups of tea, friendship and conversation.

Visitors who come here will find wonderful dim sum teahouses, small coffee shops, restaurants frequented by locals, and observe spiffily-dressed families headed to celebratory Chinese banquets. It is vibrant community, home to over 10,000 residents and visited by millions each year.
