Interesting fun tour
Fri, May 10  10:00 AM mcirulli Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
The guide was very interesting, mixing in both historical points and personal memories of the area. Our group was small, just us and another couple. The Lunch was not a full Dim Sum meal, it was more of a sampler. Food was good, nothing special.

Expected something more indepth

I expected more information on life in Chinatown--something more than stopping in front of a store window and discussing what kind of store it was to show that the area is a real neighborhood where people live. Our guide was a bit disorganized and ditzy--very nice--but not as well informed as I expected.

Great Tour of Chinatown

The tour was both fun and enlightening. The leader, Gimmy, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She chose perfect spots to highlight a complex area. We were lucky because the two of us were the only poeple on the tour. This tour is highly recommended

Emily Soo led a wonderful and detailed tour, taking our tour group through the historic alleys of Chinatown, delving into the history of Chinese immigrants, personalizing the tour with stories of her own youth, as she grew up in Chinatown . We visited the Fortune Cookie factory and witnessed the hands-on formation of each individual cookie. We went to the Buddhist temple and learned about the icons and traditions of those who worship there. We experienced a wonderful tea tasting at a lovely tea shop, learning of the various teas and what maladies they treat! We also visited an herb shop and learned cures for all of our ailments! We traveled through the market places that sells the freshest of produce, fish, and poultry to the residents of Chinatown. The tour ended with a wonderful meal consisting of tasty as well as authentic Chinese favorites. I took this tour upon a friend's recommendation that came last year and I highly recommend this tour, as well!! Well worth the price!!

The walking tour of Chinatown was very informative. Not only was the guide Chinese, she was born and raised there. We learned how the neighborhood came to be. Enjoyed the shops of all kinds...the food and the people watching was interesting. I would recommend the tour to anyone. And hope you get Dorothy for your guide

Dorothy was a terrific tour guide and I learned so much about Chinatown and San Francisco's history. I highly recommend this tour. It was an easy walk, followed by a delicious lunch. Dorothy even showed me how to properly hold my chopsticks!

Chinatown Revealed
Mon, Apr 8  10:00 AM MaggieSue Female 60-69 Local Family Without Children
Our tour guide, Emily, grew up in Chinatown so she was able to share firsthand stories interwoven throughout her narrative of the area history. This added such a personal touch. We also had a much smaller group than other tours we saw so we were able to hear what she said and ask questions along the way. We were treated to an official tea demonstration, a walk through a fortune cookie factory and a market with live animals for sale. We ended with a tasty Dim Sum lunch. A terrific afternoon!

Great Tour of Chinatown

I have been through Chinatown before, but basically just wandered through looking at the shops and restaurants. Our tour guide Gimmy, did an excellent job with our tour. She guided us to the architectural highlights and provided historical information along the way. She even squeezed in a stop at the cable car museum. At the end, we had a tea tasting session which was very good (I will never look at Lipton tea the same way). The session ended with a dim sum lunch which was very good and provided a variety of chinese food to sample. I would highly recommend this tour.

Insider's peek at Chinatown
Wed, Mar 20  10:00 AM jkosmin Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Although I have walked through Chinatown many times, in some cases going to the same establishments included in the tour, I saw it through new eyes with our tour guide who grew up in Chinatown. It was very exciting to hear the background of the familiar sites and have signs/symbols explained. I enjoyed hearing her stories of the area over the years. I have recommended that my husband take the tour next time we're in SF. It is VERY unusual for me to want to repeat a tour, but this one would be well worth it! No telling how much more I can learn next trip!!

Tour guide was very knowledgeable, grew up in the area. Group as small enough so we were not lost in a crowd. Went to herbalist, temple, stores and shops, tea tasting, cookie factory, and had great lunch.

Our guide Frank was a native of Chinatown. He knew history of the area and had great knowledge of the food. We dined at very authentic restaurants. The places where the locals go and not tourists. He was very personable and made the tour enjoyable.

I can't say enough about our tour guide, Gimmy. She was OUTSTANDING!!!! She was very knowledgable, answered any questions we had, very friendly, went the 'extra mile' for us, and was just an overall wonderful host to the city. We felt like she was definately a part of our group. The tour was completed with a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant with Gimmy. We learned so much about Chinatown on our tour. We would walk down the sidewalk or go into a shop and everyone would know who Gimmy was. LOVED it and would recommend the WOK WIZ tour to anybody and also recommend Gimmy because she was our wonderful host. Thank you Gimmy!!!!

Amazing Tour with Gimmy!

Gimmy was born and raised in Chinatown, she even procured her birth certificate from the Chinese Hospital!! We learned so much that we never could have without her guidance. We loved the neighborhood so much that we came back a second day to try all the other things she recommended, including going to the Chinese Herb Doctor, what a fantastic experience! I can't recommend this highly enough.
