Loved this tour. The tour offered many insights into the history and culture of Chinatown. Dorothy, our guide, created an authentic vision of China town's past and present .

Could not have been happier with the tour. The tour lasted a full three hours and was chock full of interesting history and personal tidbits. Our tour leader was fantastic! If this wasn't enough, it culminated in a wonderful lunch with great company. What a bargain. A must do in SF.

Chinatown Revealed
Sun, Mar 7  10:00 AM clrodgers Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
My husband and I enjoyed the 2.5 hour walk with our tour guide, Dorothy. My favorite stop was at the Red Blossom Tea Shop where we learned about the varieities of green tea and tasted one of the best varieties of oolong. We briefly walked through a traditional pharmacist (would have liked more information here) and a fresh produce shop. Our guide explained much about the history of the area and pointed out a variety of historical buildings. The dim sum lunch that we got at the end was a feast...much more food than I expected: 5 different dim sum dishes, plus soup, a main dish, and dessert. Quite filling, so come on the walk ready to have a big meal at noon! Would recommend this walking tour. Very educational---and delicious too!

Fantastic experience

Our tour guide, Dorothy, was born and raised in Chinatown. She was well educated and had also conducted tours between the U.S. and China. We were introduced to multiple shop owners, taught to say some phrases in Mandarin, and had a wonderful lunch. After the tour my family continued exploring Chinatown and used some of the Mandarin language while shopping. During our stay in San Francisco we went on five tours from three different tour companies. Wok Whiz was the most entertaining while also providing an enlightened education of a different culture. Don't miss this experience.

A great way to learn about Chinatown from a local
Fri, Feb 19  10:00 AM J_Craig Male 60-69 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This is a great tour to learn the overall history of Chinatown as well as interesting annecdotes that are not in the guidebooks. The tour guide grew up in the area and was knowledgable, freindly and enthusiastic. The tour stops at several interesting stores, such as a tea shop where tea-making was demonstrated, and the guide had tips for other stores to visit that were not just catering to tourists. Many of these stores are carrying on traditional Chinese crafts and customs for the local community as opposed to generic tourist fare. The tour culminates in a good dim sum meal with more food than you can eat. At three hours the tour is a little long, so be prepared to walk a ways and work up a good appetite before you sit down to eat!

Outstanding Glimpse into Chinatown Life
Sun, Feb 14  10:00 AM jeanwoolard Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Unspecified
This walking tour is an outstanding glimpse into the REAL life in Chinatown. Little known facts and sites are pointed out. (I took this tour two summers ago and loved it). I was a little disappointed that the Buddhist Temple wasn't included this time, and the fortune cookie factory was rushed through.....but it was still worth it. The lunch was fantasic....understanding the different courses, and what sauces to include was great. I recommend this tour to all of my friends (all ages) heading to SFO. Thanks!!

My wife and I were in SanFrancisco on vacation and had a great time on our tour. The China Town tour was outstanding and the lunch was great. Dorthy was a wonderful guide and we would recommend the tour and Dorthy to anyone who is visiting the area.

A Cultural Delight!
Fri, Feb 12  10:00 AM satgwin Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Even though it was a rainy day, Dorothy made this tour the highlight of our trip to SF. She wove together stories from her own life with the history of Chinatown to give us a rich, culturally-steeped experience. The tea tasting and dim sum lunch were fantastic!!

Big disappointment
Wed, Feb 10  10:00 AM kabrinkman Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
Big disappointment because it never happened. As it turns out, we were the only 2 people booked for the tour on that date. Tour provider contacted us about ability to switch to another date, which didn't work for us because we were leaving the area. Rather than just taking the 2 of us - which I would have expected since it was billed as "rain or shinek, it's on" they cancelled. WokWiz offered to reimburse me part of the cost, since it would be impossible to get reimbursement via Zerve. Still waiting on that, and I have no idea how much of the cost I will actually be reimbursed. Would suggest that if Zerv e is gong to sell "non-refundable" tickets that it make sure that the provider is willing to actually provide the service.

A great tour for the price
Thu, Feb 4  10:00 AM Parmenter51 Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We did the morning tour including a delicious Dim Sum lunch. Our guide Dorothy was delightful and informative throughout. With only two full days in San Francisco, this was an ideal way to get a more in depth look at an important and interesting part of the city. At $45 each, including lunch, this was money well spent.

Dorothy was very sweet and knowlegeable, but after seeing Shirley on TV several times, we expected to have her as our tour guide. I didn't get from the registration that there might be others doing this job

Great, but...

Our tour guide, Dorothy, was such a pleasant person to be around for the next couple of hours. Everything about the tour was great. The lunch was fantastic. The only recommendation I have regarding the tour, I would have rather visited the fortune cookie factory instead of learning about specific produce from the market store. Otherwise, it was a wonderful time.

Shirley was very personable and fun...like having a friend show you around. I wish there was a little more focus on the history and culture of Chinatown to balance the fun, and I wish there had been more explanation of what was going on in the temple.
