Interesting, Informative, and Fun

Our Guide, Dorothy, was just incredible. She knew so much about Chinatown having been born there and lived there most of her life. She made the history of the area come alive. She has the style of a great storyteller. I enjoyed her personal insights into what it was like to grow up in the area as well as her appreciation of the architecture. She showed us many interesting places and had a story about each one. We were amazed at the end of the tour to find out that she was 74 years young!! I really liked the personal flavor of this tour. It was fun but interesting too. I had never been in a Buddist Temple before and it was quite colorful. I also found it fascinating to hear about the history of the development of San Francisco's Chinatown and the years of discrimination and political develpment that arose from it. The dynamic of the Park we visited where old and young men gathered to play games and where the old women met to exercise, watch small grandchildren, and just visit gave more insight into the culture of the area. I have been to San Francisco many times as a good friend lives here, and we have done many "touristy" things together. This was one of the best things we have ever experienced and I would do it again and highly recommend it to others. The lunch at the conclusion of the tour was excellent also!

I enjoyed the Wok Wiz tour very much, it was so informative, I had no idea all of the history behind Chinatown. Our tour guide Dorothy did an excellent job, she really knew her history and I loved hearing her stories of growing up and the difference between then and now.

Not worth the price

Our guide was friendly but not all that interesting. He had an inside perspective of Chinatown but somehow came across as having a chip on his shoulder because of it. We never got to talk to an herbalist, which I think was advertized as part of the tour. The lunch was so-so, it didn't seem to be in a very authentic place as the only people who were there were various tour groups. I would recommend doing a City Tour of Chinatown and eat at Sam Wo for lunch.

This tour was a very interesting insight into San Francisco's Chinatown. Our guide, Chuck, was very knowledgeable and amiable. He shared his information in an amusing way. He had a particularly good historical knowledge and also had a good understanding of the local people and customs. The places we visited on the tour were relevant and related well to the historical information that Chuck gave to us on the tour. I also greatly appreciated the way that none of the vendors that we visited put any pressure on us to purchase from them. I personally mostly enjoyed the visit to the Tea Shop to learn about tea and the different methods and plants that produced tea. A very interesting tour and I would certainly recommend it to others who are interested in learning a little bit of the quirkyness of San Francisco.

This tour was recommended by a friend who has been to San Francisco many times. She was very excited to help me get set up! Once I arrived, Wow! Shirley greeted my daughter and me and made sure that we were comfortable and ready to go. We saw so many interesting sites and sounds! We were able to enjoy personal stories of growing up in China Town and the history behind China Town. It was worth every minute of time. Thank you Shirley and Emily!

I would have considered this tour a waste of money if it didn't end with a nice meal for lunch. Our tour guide was very nice but I couldn't hear half of what she said so within the first 15 minutes I gave up trying and found myself wishing I could just explore myself. I thought it would be more "food" based but it really wasn't it was more about the history of Chinatown but without touching much on the human element. I think this tour could change dramatically by the guide that is assigned to the group. Basically it was more talk than walk and ended with a good lunch.

We saw the tour on a local TV program earlier in the year. We were so glad we finally scheduled a time to go. Despite growing up in the area, we learned a lot of history with which we had been unfamiliar. We appreciated learning more about an area in which we find ourselves frequently as well as learning about stores and restaurants that we are sure to visit again in the future.

My family and I enjoyed the tour with Frank immensely! He was excellent: knowledgeable about Chinatown from personal experience. He grew up in SF Chinatown, so he had first-hand knowledge and personal attachment to the area. We also loved the food at the Dim Sum restaurant. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour that I first saw advertised on KRON 4 weekend news.

Highly recommended a great mix of history, anecdote and information. I learned things I never would have know if I'd just wandered about on my own. I also saw things I wouldn't have been able to access like the temple. I'm telling all my friends if they are ever in SF to go.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area and was able to show us all the nooks and crannies of the Chinatown area. The lunch was amazing and quite the value. I highly recommend this tour.

no crowds and a lot of attention

Perhaps because of potential rains, we had a very small group, which made the tour feel not like a crowd, but rather, a walk around Chinatown with a couple of friends. We never had to negotiate our way to the front of the group to hear what our guide was saying, nor did we have to wait for the end of the group to catch up as it was such an intimate group. This also gave us the ability to squeeze into some of the smaller shops and see exactly what was going on. And we never got a raindrop!
