Does Not Live Up to Its Advertising

I was very disappointed by how much time the guide wasted talking about stuff that had no particular connection to San Francisco's Chinatown. We did not get to visit a tea purveyor, or our own "farmers market" — produce markets, or learn about the beautiful and ornate architecture. We did not hear about the best place to shop for linens. The meal we had was at a restaurant that anyone could have just walked into without a guide and done just as well. The guide pointed out a place to go back to after the tour and have a chance to buy from six different kinds of candied ginger. I went back and they didn't even have one kind. All in all it was a complete waste of time.

I really enjoyed the history sight seeing

I thought our host Chuck was very warm and friendly. I enjoyed listening to him speak. I liked when he told little snipets of his experience being Chinese. I love history so I enjoyed all of it. The restaurant you took us to was very clean, pretty and the food was delicious and fresh. Only a very small thing, there could have been more room at the table for the chairs to all fit. I enjoyed Alice at Red Blossom, I liked buying cookies at the Golden cookie. I liked the temple visit and the stops outside the meat and vegtable markets. I want to sneak in to Portsmouth Square and paint the building bright red and green the way it should be. Thank you for the fun adventure.

A Day of Laughs, History and Unforgettable Food

Shirley Fong-Torres is a master. She escorted us through some most memorable Chinatown experiences. From the Red Blossom Tea Shop to Yuet Lee's restaurant, we enjoyed every minute. There was a spontaneity to the tour that extended into great conversations about food. We'll do it again!

We've been to many Chinatowns on our own but I wanted to have some entry into a deeper level of understanding by taking this tour. We really enjoyed meeting people in Chinatown and experiencing a more authentic visit to that culture. It was a wonderful tour run by an enthusiastic leader.

The Tour was Great!

My husband and I did the tour out of curiosity. We were very impressed with the amount of knowledge our tour guide Dorothy had. She was interesting, funny, and full of little tid-bits that only someone that lived there would have known. She was born there, and told us a lot of history about what China Town used to be like. I found it very enlightening. I highly recommend this tour, and try to get Dorothy! ~A & B from Hollister, CA.

Great overview of Chinatown
Fri, Apr 18  10:00 AM JeanSchweitz Female 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The 3-hour tour with lunch is a terrific way to see and taste Chinatown. We would never have seen everything on our own nor learned the history of what we were seeing. We especially liked the tea shop, sampling various varieties and learning how to brew tea properly. Lunch at the Imperial Garden was delicious with both unusual and familiar dishes to choose from---filling, but not heavy. Our guide, Alberta, explained what was in each dish and answered all our questions. One caveat: The walking tour is very easy except for one or two steep hills. Those who don't walk well need to have plenty of time to rest on the way up.

LOVED IT!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We are still talking about our Wok Wiz tour with Alberta. She is such a fun person and really packs in the sights. Many of the sights were places we would never have seen on our own. We especially enjoyed the tea tasting, temple, herb shop, the quick visit with Erhu... I guess we just loved it all. Even our daughters, (ages 22 and 23) agree it was one of the highlights of our trip to San Francisco. We learned so much about Chinese culture and especially enjoyed Alberta's personal stories about growing up, marrying and raising her family there. The lunch was a bit rushed but we didn't care, we were hungry. I was wondering if we would feel obligated to purchase from the stores we visited but never once felt it was necessary. In fact we couldn't wait to return to a few, unfortunately one was closed for several hours and we never got back. Thanks, Alberta.

Fantastic Tour, Non-Touristy
Sat, Apr 12  10:00 AM lmazzei Female 30-39 Local Group of Friends
Hank was a fantastic tour guide. His knowledge of Chinatown and the little-known facts made the tour non-touristy. He was very good at addressing questions as well as providing and abundance of information that one would not normally know from reading a guidebook. I am local to the Bay Area, residing in San Jose for over 10 years. I enjoy taking tours and learning about the area, and would highly recommend this tour to anyone I encounter.

Lots of fun!

Although I've been to Chinatown many times as a local and now as a tourist, I saw things I had never seen before ... shops, alleyways and even a vigorous game of Mah Jong. The tour was informative and fun - what a wonderful way to spend 3 hours! Our guide was energetic and knew Chinatown inside and out; she even taught us a few words of Cantonese. I highly recommend this tour.

Wok Wizzing through Chinatown.

My husband and I really enjoyed the walking tour of Chinatown with the dim sum lunch. We were lucky enough to have Alberta, who not only was so knowledgeable but also funny as well. She was a great tour guide and really helped us to understand the culture of Chinatown a lot more. The only area where I would have liked to see some improvement was the time we spent in the fortune cookie factory. I thought we were going to see the actual production of the cookies but it seemed that we spent about 45 seconds in there. I was disappointed with that but overall the tour was great. I would recommend this company to others and would do another tour with them as well. Thank you Wok Wiz.

Fun but pricey
Fri, Apr 11  10:00 AM katebobo Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
While the Wok Wiz tour took me to places that I would not have known to venture, it was on the more expensive side of tours I took. While lunch was included, the food was not as good as my local Chinese eatery. Tour guide Alberta is a hoot and does acclimate one to the area, including a must sample tea shop.

We had a terrific tour with Dorothy as our guide -- the right mix of history and current day culture. She was not only very knowledgeable but an effective storyteller that kept the kids focused throughout the tour. Would have loved to spend all day with her.
