The Tour Was Good; The Dim Sum Was Not!

| We enjoyed the tour very much. However, we did not enjoy the dim sum. We thought it was not very good at all. Because we love dim sum so much, I'm not sure about recommending the tour to friends who also love dim sum. Instead of being the highlight, it was a disappointing way to end an otherwise enjoyable morning. | ||||||

Very informative and unusual.

| Not only did we learn a lot on this tour but we visited places that I know we would not have visited, let alone known about, on our own. | ||||||

| The Wok-Wiz tour is not a thrill ride; it is an interesting way to see Chinatown in SF. You could walk around without the guide and see the same things but you probably wouldn't notice some of them and they would have no meaning for you. Our guide pointed out simple things like alleys she once played in and how they have, or haven't changed. She told us about some of her childhood activities and how she and her family came to be in Chinatown. She also took us to a tea tasting with purveyors who really knew their stuff which my teenagers found interesting! My daughter is fascinated with all things Oriental so take that into consideration. We all found the lunch to be very good and we left considerable food on the table so there was plenty for our group of 7-8 people. The group consisted of visitors from Kansas, Massachusetts, Romania and Canada. We found them to be interesting and intelligent which enhanced the experience. This tour is not a history lesson though you will get some. Think of this tour as like having one of your friends hook you up with one of their friends (whom you don't know) to show you around their neighborhood for a few hours one morning while you are on vacation. | ||||||

| This tour was very much worth the price. Alberta, our tour guide provided a nice overall flavor of Chinatown. The walk wasn't too strenuous with multiple stops along the way including a tea shop, fish market, produce store, and a visit with some guy who was in The Pursuit of Happyness. It was certainly interesting and eye opening - especially the fish market where we saw the frogs and turtles for sale (for consumption, not pets). The dim sum was decent - I've had better, but I've been to a lot of Chinese restaurants. Certainly it would have been interesting and tasty for the international tourist or someone who may have had limited exposure to Chinese food. | ||||||

| This tour was the highlight of my San Francisco stay. Our tour guide, Alberta, was lots of fun and very knowledgeable about the area. I especially enjoyed our tea and lunch. Would recommend this tour to anybody - it was fabulous! | ||||||

| I go to Chinatown often to visit, I live 45 minutes from S.F. and I was interested in learning more about one of my favorite places to explore. I really enjoyed our tour guide. She was very friendly and had great personal history to share with our group. I learned things about Chinatown that I never knew and overall had a fun time. I did feel that the tour was overpriced for the experience. I took my 10 year old nephew with me and for the two of us I spent nearly $90. I have been on many tours in other cities and did not pay this much. I also would have liked to venture into the more "local's side" of Chinatown to learn about everyday life for it's residents. I am still debating on wether or not to fork over $95 / person for the "I can't believe I ate my way through Chinatown" tour. As of right now, I think I will save my money and spend it on actually buying food instead. | ||||||

| I have taken the SF Walking tours and Wok Wiz walking tour. Although I enjoyed the SF Walking tour more, this tour was great for the first timer in Chinatown. Our tour guide, Chuck was very nice, funny, and one the best tour guides I have ever had. The tour was a little "sanitized" for me...general history, the quick tour of the cookie factory, and the "Americanized" tea shop visit. I would have enjoyed more authentic views. The food, contrary to the other reviews, was wonderful. The best Dim Sum I have ever had. In addition, the Wok Wiz tour was fun---half of the enjoyment was touring and eating with perfect strangers, who in a couple of hours, become your best friends! | ||||||

It's okay but highly dependent on the guide

| It started off terribly because the guide spent the first half hour standing in one spot, speaking to the children of the group almost exclusively, boring the rest of the group. It was like being on a children's field trip. It got better after we spoke to him privately. Don't expect anything like a "secrets of Chinatown" tour, but the stops at a temple, a tea shop, and the fortune cookie factory were interesting, and the shopkeepers will pay more attention to you as members of a recurring tour. The tea shop was by far the best stop, they did a whole tea presentation and tasting. The guide was born there and was knowledgeable but seemed distracted by the children too much, and the kids even looked uncomfortable with being the center of attention of a group of strangers while getting quizzed on history. The restaurant at the end was okay but nothing special. We crossed paths with another Wok Wiz group and the other guide seemed even worse, so I guess we got lucky in a way. It's a pleasant enough way to spend a morning if the weather is nice, but don't give up something better if you have to make a choice. | ||||||

| My college age daughter and I had a fantastic time on the tour. We live in the north bay and have been to Chinatown before but we learned so much on the tour and now have a deeper awareness of this interesting community. Our tour guide was fun and full of information on the culture, traditions and history of Chinatown. The highlights were the tea tasting and the fabulous dim sum lunch. Don't have a big breakfast and enjoy this fun tour! | ||||||

| Chuck's tales of growing up in Chinatown were so much fun! He's an awesome storyteller. He even kept the fidgety kids in our group engaged and asking questions. I learned so much about traditions, food, history, tea, prejudice, religion. This tour is a gem. | ||||||

RUN!! DO NOT TAKE THIS SO-CALLED "TOUR"!!

| We endured an hour of this "tour" which consisted of walking around a park square right across from the Hilton Hotel. We saw no shops, no food being prepared, nothing. We just stood on the sidewalk. Our guide spent 20 minutes asking our names and finding out where we were from. She was just stalling so she didn't have to do anything or walk anywhere. I have traveled extensively and was looking forward to this tour but it was the biggest waste of money I have ever experienced. We left the group after an hour, after we stopped in front of a building and she asked people to take turns reading plaques out loud. Insulting. RUN AWAY!! DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR!! | ||||||
