Excellent and enthusiastic guide who gave lots of his own time to answer questions. Through this tour I was able to gain insight that I wouldn't have been able to do on my own. Also, a good value with a delicious lunch included.

The guide was very friendly, shared interesting historical insights and was very protective of the group so that everyone felt included and safe. The lunch at the end was very good and there was plenty of food. I would highly recommend this walking tour.

Frankie was an execellent tour leader. Great explanations. Felt like he was a friend by the end of the tour. Food was good . We went back to the tea shop after the tour. A top notch business.

Interesting, but not a food tour

We were expecting something like the the North End food tour in Boston, hoping to come away with a better understanding of the ingredients and techniques that effect the quality of Chinese cuisine. This tour is really a walking history tour with a couple of food stops; you pop into the fortune cookie factory and grab a cookie and eat lunch at a Chinese restaurant at the end of the tour, but the tour guide only speaks about the local history of the area. The high point of the tour was a stop at Red Blossom Tea, where the owner presented a wonderfully informative primer on tea and preparation techniques. I would only recommend this tour to someone interested in the history of Chinatown, not someone interested in learning more about Chinese cuisine. (Our children are teenagers and love to cook, so they were disappointed, too!)

Wonderful Tour

We had three adults and two teenagers on the Wok Wiz tour and we all had a great time. The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I had been to China Town before but taking the tour was a much more rewarding experience. WE all learned so much, and had fun doing it. I loved the tea shop and the din sum lunch!

More rewarding than just wandering by ourselves

We particularly enjoyed the temple visit and the tea shop. The lunch was great and we tried many dishes that we otherwise would not have had the opportunity to taste. Our guide was very knowlegeable and approachable. We were in a small group of 9 people comprising two families - this made the experience more enjoyable than being part of a larger crowd.

Very interesting!

I attended this tour with my husband and 10-year old daughter. We have visited SF's Chinatown many times before, but this time we felt like we learned so much and have much more insight about the culture of Chinatown and the people. Our tour leader was very enthusiastic and a ton of fun! Highly recommended!

Interesting with Room for Improvement

Chinatown was very interesting, and the tour took us to locations that we wouldn't notice if we were walking through on our own. I expected our tour guide to be a little more outgoing and more familiar with the current Chinatown. She grew up there but didn't seem to be up on what it is like today. I took a similiar tour of Greenwich Village in New York and was incredibly impressed, so that was my comparison. Still, I would recommend the tour and discovered a lot about Chinatown.

It all depends...

Frank, our guide, was a knowledgeable (born and raised in Chinatown) and articulate guide; however, he fell so far behind schedule that we missed some of the more important attractions of the area. It was not his fault entirely...one of guests was wheelchair-bound and pushing the chair up a few of the very steep hills really slowed things down. Perhaps the company could arrange separate tours for those who are physlcially challenged. At any rate, this tour does not compare with the North Beach tour where we got various small snacks at some of the food establishmets. Here we got a little tea (unless you opted for the din sum lunch afterwards which we did not do. There may be better options out there

Great tour guide, lunch a let down

We truly loved our tour guide, whose name escapes me right now. We liked the fact that she was born and grew up in Chinatown and was well versed in its history, and as we walked around she was clearly known in the area. We loved learning of the history and walking the back alleys and seeing Chinatown through her eyes. We were a bit let down with the dim sum lunch, which we were so looking forward to. I know you try to cater to folks who have never eaten dim sum before, but that's part of the adventure, trying new things. We've had dim sum before and know of the wide variety of yummy offerings, what we had was mediocre at best. And no chicken feet, what a let down!!!

Great tour. Would have never have learned as much on my own. Our tour guide, Alberta, was fantastic. Glad we did it.

Having never been to Chinatown we thought a tour would be best and we were not dissapointed. Our tour guide Emily was very friendly and knowledgeble. We had eight in our group that was just about right. We had lunch at the Four Seas and the meal was very good. I was a little dissappointed in the selection. But rest assured that I did not go away hungry, I had more than enough to eat. All and all we were very pleased with our tour. It was very good for people visting Chinatown for the first time as it was a good overview.
