The Tour was Great!

My husband and I did the tour out of curiosity. We were very impressed with the amount of knowledge our tour guide Dorothy had. She was interesting, funny, and full of little tid-bits that only someone that lived there would have known. She was born there, and told us a lot of history about what China Town used to be like. I found it very enlightening. I highly recommend this tour, and try to get Dorothy! ~A & B from Hollister, CA.

Great overview of Chinatown

The 3-hour tour with lunch is a terrific way to see and taste Chinatown. We would never have seen everything on our own nor learned the history of what we were seeing. We especially liked the tea shop, sampling various varieties and learning how to brew tea properly. Lunch at the Imperial Garden was delicious with both unusual and familiar dishes to choose from---filling, but not heavy. Our guide, Alberta, explained what was in each dish and answered all our questions. One caveat: The walking tour is very easy except for one or two steep hills. Those who don't walk well need to have plenty of time to rest on the way up.

Alberta was our tour guide and she was great in providing us with the history of china town and the customs in San Francisco. I would strongly recommend it to others.

LOVED IT!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We are still talking about our Wok Wiz tour with Alberta. She is such a fun person and really packs in the sights. Many of the sights were places we would never have seen on our own. We especially enjoyed the tea tasting, temple, herb shop, the quick visit with Erhu... I guess we just loved it all. Even our daughters, (ages 22 and 23) agree it was one of the highlights of our trip to San Francisco. We learned so much about Chinese culture and especially enjoyed Alberta's personal stories about growing up, marrying and raising her family there. The lunch was a bit rushed but we didn't care, we were hungry. I was wondering if we would feel obligated to purchase from the stores we visited but never once felt it was necessary. In fact we couldn't wait to return to a few, unfortunately one was closed for several hours and we never got back. Thanks, Alberta.

Fantastic Tour, Non-Touristy
Sat, Apr 12, 08   10:00 AM lmazzei Female 30-39 Local Group of Friends
Hank was a fantastic tour guide. His knowledge of Chinatown and the little-known facts made the tour non-touristy. He was very good at addressing questions as well as providing and abundance of information that one would not normally know from reading a guidebook. I am local to the Bay Area, residing in San Jose for over 10 years. I enjoy taking tours and learning about the area, and would highly recommend this tour to anyone I encounter.

Although I've been to Chinatown many times as a local and now as a tourist, I saw things I had never seen before ... shops, alleyways and even a vigorous game of Mah Jong. The tour was informative and fun - what a wonderful way to spend 3 hours! Our guide was energetic and knew Chinatown inside and out; she even taught us a few words of Cantonese. I highly recommend this tour.

Wok Wizzing through Chinatown.

My husband and I really enjoyed the walking tour of Chinatown with the dim sum lunch. We were lucky enough to have Alberta, who not only was so knowledgeable but also funny as well. She was a great tour guide and really helped us to understand the culture of Chinatown a lot more. The only area where I would have liked to see some improvement was the time we spent in the fortune cookie factory. I thought we were going to see the actual production of the cookies but it seemed that we spent about 45 seconds in there. I was disappointed with that but overall the tour was great. I would recommend this company to others and would do another tour with them as well. Thank you Wok Wiz.

Fun but pricey

While the Wok Wiz tour took me to places that I would not have known to venture, it was on the more expensive side of tours I took. While lunch was included, the food was not as good as my local Chinese eatery. Tour guide Alberta is a hoot and does acclimate one to the area, including a must sample tea shop.

We had a terrific tour with Dorothy as our guide -- the right mix of history and current day culture. She was not only very knowledgeable but an effective storyteller that kept the kids focused throughout the tour. Would have loved to spend all day with her.

I have been to China Town many times before, but enjoyed it this time from a different perspective--that of a local. Our tour guide told us all sorts of interesting details about Chinese culture and her heritage as a Chinese-American born and raised in China Town.

My husband and I visited San Francisco during Spring Break with my son and nephew. We took the Wiz Wok tour and was fortunate to be in a small group. Alberta was our tour guide. She was very informative and made the tour thoroughly enjoyable. We especially enjoyed the tea shop! I would strongly recommend this tour if you have an interest in Chinatown. Lunch was included in our tour and it was excellent.

We went on the daily Wok Wiz tour in April 2008 with our 3 children ages 11, 8 and 8. Alberta was our guide and showed us places in Chinatown that we would have completely missed if we toured on our own. She also gave us great insight into Chinese culture and traditions. The lunch was superb. But the highlights for us were the Temple, the tea shop and the butcher shop. We all enjoyed it and would highly recommend.

SF Chinatown Walking Tour was great!

When I go on vacation I always sign up for tours in order to learn more about the area I'm traveling in. It occurred to me why not go on a tour in my own area? I am so glad I did! I loved it. Lola was fun and interesting. She had first hand knowledge since she grew up in Chinatown. We visited a Tea Shop, a fortune cookie factory, had Dim Sum for lunch, got to visit with the others in the group over lunch. They were from several different places and it was very interesting and fun to talk to them too! The weather was beautiful. I came away with a lot of knowledge of Chinatown, a better understanding of its people and the feeling that I could return and feel comfortable exploring the shops and trying the many different restaurants! I highly recommend the tour. Very fun!
