Our tour guide, Hank, was absolutely wonderful. He gave us a glimpse of what it was like growing up in chinatown. The food was great and the people at Wok Wiz were very nice! Highly Recommend the tour!

I was visiting from Australia and two of my brother's work colleagues invited me to do the wok wiz tour with them. Shirley and Hank were really fun, they told us a lot about the history of Chinatown and their own personal history. I really liked the food and tea we tasted on the tour and enjoyed seeing Chinatown from a local's perspective. I would recommend this tour to visitors as well as people living locally. I was also relieved to not be walking up too many hills!
Rating: 4 Good but not great

Definitely get to see parts of Chinatown that you'd otherwise miss. Food was only fair. May have been better to have saved the extra charge for lunch and eaten dim sum at one of the places recommended on the tour by the guide.

Our guide was a bit "all over the place" with the stories. I didn't feel like I learned that much about why the area was formed, how it developed, etc. He talked more about different foods shown in the shop windows, different toys, etc. He told us where to buy certain things (not that important to me, as I have been to Chinatown before). Also, the meal was not that exotic and not even dim sum, really. Nothing you wouldn't have had before- spring rolls, chow mein. I did like the visit to the tea shop and the tasting that followed- but it was given by the shop owner, not the tour guide.
Rating: 5 Just and excellent tour and tour guide

Just the right length of time. The lunch came at the right time and was excellent. Have already recommended this tour to others.

Our tour of Chinatown was spectacular! Just when you thought you'd seen it all, and tasted it all, Shirley came up with another wonderful treat! The history of the area, the history of the people and more came alive with this tour! I'd recommend everyone take it on at least one visit to San Francisco! We're looking forward to a second visit and a second tour!

Shirley Fong-Torres is absolutely fabulous! She's vivacious and and fun and a great story-teller. Chinese food has never been my favourite - until this tour. The food was wonderful. It's a great tour for people on their own, because the group is small. There were 7 in our tour. I can't rave enough about it. I've already recommended it to all my friends.
Rating: 5 Lots of fun and very informative!

I highly recommend this tour. Our guide was so charming and friendly and she really made us all feel like a part of the group. I loved learning about the history of Chinatown and getting "insider info" on some of the best shops. Lunch was amazing! We had a wonderful time!

My goodness, if I had known we were going to eat so much food I would have paced myself a little better. When we stopped at the first place for breakfast, a really funky, hilarious place full of character (don't be put off by the looks of the place as the food was great) I just stuffed my face. I think I became so delirious with overeating that I have forgotten the order we ate things in! We stopped for the most deliecious tea with an informative talk, we ate a sweet, warm custard kind of tart on the street, we had THE BEST crispy duck and pork on the street and all the time Shirley filled us in on history, customs, the food and answered our questions. By this time I could barely walk I was so full of delicious Chinese foods but we carried on for Dim Sum which we shared with our group standing outside the shop. I loved all that eating outside and it helped we had a friendly group sharing and chatting. We walked through crowded streets while Shirley continued to educate us on China Town. And then if you can believe we went and ate lunch. This was a sit downmeal in a nice restaurant where Shirley ordered the food and we ate and ate. We had some very interesting dishes, those that I knew nothing about and probably would never have chosen! The group had fun eating and chatting around the table. I seriously could not believe I ate so much. Come hungry, pace yourself and be prepared for a LOT of food and information. Shirley was great; knowledgable, friendly, funny and popular with the locals. I highly recommend this trip, just be prepared for a few little things out of the ordinary!!!!!

We had quite an enjoyable time with Shirley. She's very knowledgeable and really knows her stuff. We tasted everything from 100 year old eggs to chinese custard. Learned about chinese teas, and ate delicious food constantly. I highly recommend this tour - it is unlike any other.

This was a great tour! Dorothy Chow was our guide. She talked about the history of Chinatown, took us around to see the sights, and introduced us to shop owners. She was warm and personal with a sense of humor and depth of understanding of Chinatown. Lunch was a lot of fun, too! We tried many different things -- dim sum and a dish of noodles. I would highly recommend this tour. It was not physically challenging. It was informative. It was fun. A wonderful experience!

My daughter and I learned a lot about the Chinese culture on this tour. The tour guide was born and raised in Chinatown, so was able to answer all questions. We went into a Temple and learned some about one of their religions. We tasted some tea as a tea shop which was also a learning experience. The lunch choice was excellent. There were foods I would not have normally experimented with, but I did since everyone else was, and I and my daughter actually liked everything and it was more food than we could possibly eat. My daughter and I felt this tour was well worth the money!

I really enjoyed the SF Chinatown tour. I arrived very late for the tour (about 10 minutes), and our tour guide (I'm so sorry that I don't remember her name. Abigail??) was very gracious about this. I was able to forget the blunder and enjoy the tour very quickly because of her attitude. I enjoyed hearing her very personal anecdotes and her no nonsense leadership as she took us through the literally bustling streets. I felt that I was getting an "inside look" into a historical, yet functional and vibrant place. She exposed how many people in Chinatown still identify themselves with China, and how this colors much of how this San Francisco region functions and thrives. This is a tour I would recommend to visitors and would happily take again. I've taken other tours with other companies (North Beach, specifically) and paid double the price, therefore, I think it's a bargain too. In the end, I neglected to give her a tip (I didn't realize it until later), but she certainly deserved one! I won't forget next time! Pamela Armstead

During our first trip to San Francisco we were made aware of the "Wok Wiz " walking tour of China town but opted not to take part. Some friends of ours raved about the tour, so on this trip we we made it a priority. We would give the tour an A+ for being informative and entertaining. Our guide sincerely endeavored to make the experience special for each member and she was successful. We will always have a special place in our hearts for China Town because of our tour experience. Thank-you "Wok Wiz" for the great experience.
