| Any Chinatown can be overwhelming at first glance...so colorful, so busy...our guide, Dorothy, was so wonderful...genuinely kind, a lovely soul. She is a marvelous story teller and weaves Chinatown history into every day living. She knows every nook and cranny of her own area of San Francisco and shines when she shares her heritage. We were so fortunate to have her! | ||||||

| Frank gave a great tour. He brought his own insight in, along with showing us sites to follow up on after the tour. I would highly recommend it | ||||||

Too much chit chat not enough hard facts

| I think that for the amount of time the tour spent we could have covered more ground and had more facts. It was nice to have a tour guide that grew up in Chinatown but he joked too much. I think he could improve his presentation by being a little more serious and fact oriented. | ||||||

| We very much enjoyed our tour of Chinatown. Our guide, Frank, was enthusiastic, knowledgable, and fun. We got a lot out of his descriptions of the history of the area and "off-the-beaten-path" stories that couldn't be found in a tour brochure. The tour began on time, in a clear, central location, and included specific trips/referrals to places in Chinatown that we visited after the tour was over. Couldn't recommend it more highly--for aduls and children. Thanks! | ||||||

| I was on the Wok Wiz tour with some friends in the cold summer weather. While our guide was friendly and provided some interesting information about Chinatown, her narrative was plodding and sketchy. She spoke slowly with many gestures, which made us feel that we were a group of elementary students with little English. We felt that she could have given us more information about the area if she had spoken faster and led us to more streets and sights in the area. Instead, she had lengthy pauses, and she spent valuable time in shivering weather doing such things as having members of the tour read plaques on a wall, practice MANY times how to pronounce "Guangdong," taking some time to have "the taller people get behind the shorter people," "get into a semicircle," "come closer to me," "line up against the wall" etc.(which we could pretty much figure out on our own and gained some time.) We learned plenty about China and her personal story (including a visit to the street where she was born), but would like to have known more about Chinatown itself. We didn't learn about the local roots and herbs, or why the doorways were narrow and the roofs were curved (items I remembered from a long ago article on the tour). The lunch was informative and tasty, but again, information was slow in coming, and the tour group at the next table was having a lot more fun. | ||||||

| It gave us an inside look of how Chinatown is today and was in the past. It was very interesting to see how people have continued many of the traditions of old. I was amazed at how some people are still living today as they may have lived years ago. Lola was delightful, warm, and informative. Thanks for the memories. | ||||||

| Considering that Ms Torres is such a food person (television shows, books etc) I was expecting a dim sum dinner that would excell anything that I had ever experienced. The lunch at the Four Seas was very disappointing. I had read several other reviews stating my similar opinion and hoped that by the time we went this would be corrected. I would suggest either a change in menu items or better yet a more upscale chinese restaurant. Not one of the items offered was appealing visually or tastefully. The tour guide was the only bright spot. Had I known that this would be the case I would have found a much better place for lunch. Ms Torres also accompanied our group for 1hr and then had lunch with us. This was a highlight as well. SHe and the guide provided many personal touches to the tour. Please change the food- this is definitely not for foodies. Maybe "food court" food would be a good comparison. | ||||||

| Loved Lola, she took time to show us some of the local Chinatown Dim Sum places to go, special place to buy fresh pork buns.. as well as showed us unusual produce, went to a tea demo..very good at the Red Blossom...told us interesting things about her days growing up in Chinatown. The tour was topped off with a fun lunch hosted by Shirley Torres herself.. Felt like we were on vacation even though we live locally. | ||||||

| I've been on this tour before and loved it this time even more. Our guide,Chuck, gave us many insights into the life of the early Chinese in SF and the growth of Chinatown. We visited shops that my friends from out of town were so pleased to see..... fortune cookies, produce, chicken and meats and tea. The tea shop was especially informative ..... a new one for me. The dim sum lunch was excellent and well worth the addtional price. I would definitely take out of town guests any time on this tour. | ||||||

good tour - disappointed lunch

| I was disappointed with the lunch because I was hoping that the Shirley would also guide us through a dim sum menu and explain the items, allowing us to make informed selections. Instead, the food kept coming with minimal explanation of the food and how it was made. Frank did a good job of giving us the interesting history of Chinatown and his own experiences living there. He was enthusiastic and answered many questions. | ||||||
