My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour of Chinatown. Our tour guide was a delightful woman who was extremely knowledgeable about Chinatown. She was very personable and kept everyone engaged. She made the history of Chinatown come to life by talking about her own family and life in Chinatown going back over 70 years ago. We had a great lunch with our tour guide afterwards which gave us more time to ask questions. I highly recommend this tour.

I have been on the tour twice. First time was more than 5 years ago. Chinatown has changed much. Our guide was enthusiastic, easy to understand but he seemed to be "on stage". The guides who have grown up in the area can talk more about that experience. He seemed to be quite proud that he had escaped from the area and learned English. Lunch was good, I had been expecting it to be more dim sum. I could point out the other diners who were experiencing the dim sum lunch. But our lunch was good. But since we were a group of four we were seated by ourselves and not with either guide. He did visit our table once to make sure we were happy and explained the course we were eating. Remind the guides not to stand in one place for a long time, especially in the sun.

i loved this tour, our guide, herman young, did a great job of really personalizing our tour with his life experiences. we loved getting to eat dim sum, going to the temple and checking out the fresh markets. he was a great guide and the 3 hours went by SOOOO quickly. i definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience chinatown from an insider's perspective.

Taking a Wok Wiz tour was my wife's idea. I generally don't care for tours of any kind. But Alberta, our tour guide (who was born and raised in San Francisco's Chinatown), was energetic, informed, and entertaining. She led us to a tea shop where we saw the Chinese way of brewing -- and thinking about -- tea; to a temple in which the celebration of somebody's 23rd birthday happened to be going on (unlike anything I'd ever seen); to an herbalist (Chinese medicine); to a fortune-cookie factory, which was basically a large one-room shop; to a meat market -- live chickens, fish, and frogs; to vegetable stalls (where she told us how things we'll probably never see again are cooked); past a jade store; and down an alley in which Chinatown scenes are often filmed. And she did all this among the Autumn Moon festival's enormous crowds. We finished with a dim sum lunch in a restaurant. This was fun and enlightening in itself, but it also plunked us down among the dozen-or-so other tour members so we got a chance to meet them. If we ever get back to San Francisco (I used to live there) I might even consider taking the tour again. And if we do, I hope Alberta is our guide.

Nice way to visit Chinatown

It was a nice tour and a nice lunch experience. I would recommend it to the first time visitor of Chinatown. I wish we had gone into a store that sold cooking equipment. I very much enjoyed the Red Blossom Tea Company and returned there after the tour.

The information was interesting and both historical and personal, the walk was easy, and the places of interest were varied and very fun. Lunch was wonderful-plenty of delicious food of all different types-something for everyone. I'm sure there are enough places in Chinatown to fill a two hour tour many times over, so it was great to see some highlights. I know not every tour is the same, and sometimes the tours don't get to everything that might be on the agenda, but it would have been nice to have a printed map to help me get back to some of the places I found most interesting.

My wife suggested touring Chinatown and I was only lukewarm on the idea. However, Frank made it a delightful way to spend three hours. His enthusiasm was incredible - almost felt like it was his first group to have been shown the sights. The fact he lived much of his life in Chinatown added the kind of insight one does not get from books or other literature. We didn't care too much for the lunch selections, but it was still interesting to have visited a dim sum restaurant. We've taken many tours over the years and this one rates amongst our best!

Well done tour. Good insights to SF Chinatown, Lot's of history presented. Small tour group was a benefit.
