Description

Take a tour of the Old O&W Railroad route while riding a Segway!

Upon your arrival, all participants are prepared for their nature adventure with an introduction to the Segway unit which includes getting suited up with a protective helmet and participating in a training session.

Once you are acquainted with the Segway, you will set out with your guide to explore the "Rail Trail."  This is a rustic, two-mile, unpaved trail from Woodridge to Mountain Dale that used to serve as a route along the New York, Ontario and Western Railway's Main Line. Note the tour is not narrated as we want you to enjoy the serenity of the area and take in the beautiful scenery.  Think of it like a nice walk in the park...but on a Segway!

Some of the things you'll see on this 2 mile tour are:
  • Rustic vistas and scenic views of the Catskills area
  • Beautiful natural foliage and fall colors in some months
  • Local wildlife, such as deer and rabbits
In the summer months, you'll experience nature at its peak; in the fall months, you'll see some of the most amazing fall colors that the Catskills area has to offer.

What Is Not Included?

Please note the tour does not include any narration as we want our guests to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the area.

Meeting Location

Do I need to purchase my tickets in advance?
Yes, advance purchase is required as we run many tours and we need to make sure we are prepared by making sure that batteries are charged. Therefore, we need to know how many guests will be attending. To maximize your chance of getting the day and time you prefer, please book well in advance. You can book your tickets online or over the phone using only Visa, Mastercard or American Express.
Is there an age limit?
You can ride with us even if you are 120 years old but you must be at least 14 years or older to join us. All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied on the tour by an adult.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes, all participants must weigh between a minimum of 90 lbs and a maximum of 250 lbs.
Is the tour suitable for pregnant women?
No, pregnant women are not allowed to ride Segways for safety reasons.
What is a Segway?
The Segway is the first self-balancing, electric-powered transportation device. With dimensions no larger than the average adult body and the ability to emulate human balance, the Segway uses the same space as a pedestrian, and can generally go wherever a person can walk.
Can more than one person ride at a time?
No. Unfortunately, Segways are single person vehicles.
How fast does the Segway go?
The Segway can reach speeds up to 12.5 mph, but we always suggest going slower for better control and an enhanced experience.
How safe is a Segway?
Riding a Segway is a similar experience to riding a bike. We will train you to confidently ride the Segway and then common sense does the rest. It is important that Segway riders understand their responsibility to ride safely.
What happens if it rains?
We do not run our tours when the trail is wet for the safety of our guests. Therefore, there is the possibility that we may cancel the activity in the event of rainy weather which would make for unsafe conditions. If we need to cancel the event for rain, you will be allowed to reschedule your tickets (subject to availability) or receive credit for a future event.
Can I bring bottled water along?
Yes, but you'll need both hands to steer the Segway, so bringing a backpack would be wise. We often have some extra backpacks that you can borrow.
Is there parking available nearby?
Yes, there is plenty of free parking available in our parking lot.
How much time of the tour is actually spent on a Segway?
The entire experience is about 90 minutes from the time you get there. The tour itself is around 70-75 minutes. The majority of your time will be on the Segway. We will start off with a short training session and then we'll be on the Segway for the remainder of the time.
Do I have to wear a helmet?
It is our policy that all participants are required to wear a helmet. One will be provided to you free of charge.
Do I have to sign a waiver?
All Segway riders must sign a liability waiver before participating. Participants under the age of 18 must have an adult sign for them and participate in the tour with them.
Are there restrooms available?
Yes, restrooms are available at the meeting location. However, there are no restroom stops along the tour route. Therefore, it's advised that people use the restroom before we start the tour.
Do I need a driver's license to ride a Segway?
No. The Segway is classified as a Personal Assistance Mobility Device. You are considered a pedestrian when riding.
Are Segways gas powered?
No. They run on very special batteries.
How will I hear the tour guide?
The tour is not narrated so there is no need to hear any commentary. However, feel free to ask your guide questions about the things you see along the way.
Do Segways have the ability to store bags, purses?
Not really. We advise you to keep your personal items to a minimum and bring a backpack to store them in. We also usually have backpacks available that can be borrowed for the tour.
Will I be able to take pictures along the way?
Yes!! Bring your camera to capture all the sights of the beautiful Catskills. You will have plenty of photo opportunities and we encourage you to take advantage of them!
Where does the tour end?
Tours start and end at the same place. The exact location will be provided to you upon purchasing your tickets.
