Frequently Asked Questions

If the tour is sold out, is there a waiting list?
No, On Location Tours does not keep a waiting list for tours. Tours usually sell out, and often well in advance, so please make sure to purchase your tickets far in advance, especially if you have limited availability.
What type of ticket should I buy if I'm bringing a child?
For children between the ages of 6 and 12, you should purchase a reduced price Child ticket. Children ages 5 and younger ride for free, but you’ll still need to enter the appropriate number of Wee One tickets labeled “Free” when purchasing. All passengers, regardless of age, must have a ticket, so please make sure your entire party is accounted for in this way.
Where does the tour finish?
The tour ends in the heart of the financial district at Broadway & Wall Streets, close to a myriad of subway stops.
Are we on the boat the whole tour?
Absolutely not. The first half of the tour takes place on the boat since the locations we visit are on the water around Manhattan. The second half of the tour will be a walking tour, taking place off the boat. You will be able to experience the locations and take pictures. When you leave the boat, you will always be with your tour guide.
What exact locations do we visit?
The exact itinerary and route of the tour varies somewhat from tour to tour, so we can't say ahead of time exactly which locations will be visited on a specific tour. You will be provided with a handout that lists all of the real-life locations on the tour so you can revisit them at your leisure afterwards.
Is there ever a circumstance when a location is omitted from the tour?
While it is extremely rare, we do sometimes need to skip or modify certain locations that are usually a part of the tour. Since the tour visits real-life locations on the water around Manhattan, the tour's itinerary can sometimes be impacted by weather conditions, store hours, etc. On Location Tours assumes no liability or responsibility for: weather conditions, access to sites, or other conditions beyond its control.
Are the tours conducted in English only?
Yes, the New York TV and Movie Tour on the Water is currently conducted only in English. Since so much of the tour is visual, however, even those visitors who don't speak English can enjoy the tour just the same!
What type of boat is used?
The boat is the double-decker New York Water Taxi. It is friendly to the environment with low-emission engines, low-wake hulls and hospital-grade mufflers. The vessel is equipped with a premier video and audio system.
Will I get seasick?
While most people do not experience any sea sickness on the Water Taxi, you may want to consider light medication if you normally take it for motion sickness.
Is there assigned seating on the boat?
There is no assigned seating on the boat - it's first-come, first-served. If you have a number of people in your party that want to sit together, you should make sure to arrive 15-20 minutes early. Guests that arrive late or right at the starting time are much more likely to have to split up their group.
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
Almost all of the Water Taxis have bathrooms.
Are the boats handicapped accessible?
Yes, all our boats are designed to be ADA accessible. Wheelchairs, however, do not have access to the top deck.
What happens if the weather is bad?
New York Water Taxi vessels are safe in all conditions and include a climate-controlled interior cabin. Unless announced otherwise, services run rain or shine.
Are animals allowed on board?
Only Assisted Life Dogs and Seeing Eye Dogs - no other animals are permitted.
Are cameras allowed on the tour?
Yes. While filming is not allowed on the boat portion of the tour, cameras are welcome at any time.
Are food and drinks available on board?

Can I bring food and drinks?
Yes, passengers may bring their own food and soft drinks. No alcoholic beverages may be brought on board.
Does the tour run year-round?
Yes it does. Please check the calendar for available dates and times.
Can I stow anything during the tour?
You are welcome to bring things on the tour, but you will only be able to stow your belongings during the first part of the tour. You will be walking for the second half of the tour, and you not be returning to the boat afterward. Anything you bring will need to be taken with you when you leave the boat.
Is the viewing equally good on both levels of the vessel?
Viewing from both levels of the vessel is about equal.
Is the boat safe?
Yes.
